China, Russia, Iran and our next move

China, Russia and Iran shared with the United States a direct interest in the defeat of the Taliban regime and the al Qaeda network that trained armed groups attacking them. However, following the initial U.S. success in Afghanistan, these three countries will pose challenges to the next steps needed to defeat terrorism. For years China has courted Pakistan as a means of intimidating India. Along with state visits and investments, China provided Pakistan the means to produce ballistic missiles and nuclear weapons. The recently renewed relationship of Pakistan with the United States, including the end of U.S. sanctions and the nearly $1 billion in U.S. aid, might have loosened China-Pakistan links. But the Dec. 13, 2001, terrorist attack on the Parliament of India by Pakistan-based groups and the subsequent military mobilization by both countries provided China with an opportunity to strengthen further its political-military ties with Pakistan.

Bush is engaging the enemy states to put them on the defensive and make them too fearful of reprisal to sanction more terror against the US. It's an uneasy peace. Israel is putting on a show of the micro version of what would be the US response to terror. Punch me in the nose, I'll hit your ears so hard your eyes will bleed. You know, that tit for tat stuff.

The US doesn't intend to fight the Iranians etal UNTIL the Chechen buffer has been strengthened and natural gas and oil transmissions from Kazakstan to Turkey are running at full tilt. Then the US will certainly lower the boom on those regimes who wish it harm. Simultaneous with pulling up her stakes and moving to green cars and Western Hemi/Kazakstan oil. Right now we aren't threatened enough to risk the embargo by the big suppliers in the ME which would surely come in response to a major war.

Furthermore, the PRC have, in concert with Pakistan, been building combined C4I and war fighting infrastructure in Myanmar. In the meanwhile, the PRC, Myanmar and Laos have been working with useful idiot (or worse?) businessmen in Bangkok to construct a series of parallel superhighways from Kunming PRC (14th army, many nuke armed DF-21 TLEs, many tanks, etc) to Bangkok - "in pursuit of free trade." When will we get a clue?
