Feb. 12

TEHRAN (Reuters) - All 117 people on board an Iranian passenger plane were killed when the aircraft crashed into a mountain while trying to land in western Iran Tuesday, a government official told Reuters.

"All 117 are dead," said the official, declining to be identified. Those killed included four government officials and two foreigners, the official said.

The Russian-built Tupolev-154, belonging to Iran Air Tours, an affiliate of the state carrier Iran Air, was flying from the capital Tehran to Khorramabad when it disappeared off radar screens southwest of the city early Tuesday.

Khorramabad lies to the east of the Zagros mountain range running along the border with Iraq. State radio said villagers in the area were startled by an explosion early in the morning.

Low clouds and heavily overcast skies in the city may have hampered landing, residents said. Iranian airlines have been dogged by a history of accidents in recent years.

Will we dance in the streets to celebrate?
Will we praise God for giving us this moment?
Will we hope for even more deaths?

Definitely not. Just wanted to point out the differences between our two cultures.

Two objects ought not to share the same place at the same time, particularly if one or more is an irresistible force or an immovable object, etc..

I believe we in the West refer to these as 'laws' rather than helpful suggestions.

And that's right. Any air disaster pains and depresses me, I don't care whose it is (unless an unmanned and a Hellfire is involved.)

Actually, when this was posted earlier this morning, at least one freeper replied "Good riddance."

Iran was one of the few countries in the Middle East where the events of 9/11 were not greeted with rejoicing. They held a minute's silence in Tehran, which was respected.

Hey, if the Mossad is able to move a mountain into the path of an airliner, the Moslems better make nice and make nice fast!
