Did you actually read this article, or did you just see that it was printed in the Guardian and leave it at that? I think Rushdie's opinion is worth listening to - if anyone knows about the dangers of radical Islam, he does.

If you bothered to read it, you'd see that he is opposed to European anti-Americanism, and that he fully approves of the war in Afghanistan. He does say that the US should pay some attention to world opinion, but you can't expect to agree with him about everything.

My wife and I spent a couple of months each year in Thailand, much of it in villages in the North. The only anti-American sentiment we have come across is from occasional contacts in urban areas with Europeans who are often quite distainful of Americans.

OK, ok, I admit it--I didn't read it--because other article I've read in the Guardian has caused me to puke. Sorry. I hate it when others do what I just did. So sorry.

I still stand by my characterization of the Guardian as one of the last outposts of Leninist-Marxist propaganda, notwithstanding this intelligent article (after all, even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then).
