My old cat (15 years), Cloyd, has had urinary tract blockages since 1995. His most recent episode cost $2,750 for surgery and other treatments. All told, his lifetime vet bills are >$6,000.

When he was younger, he was making 'stromatelite' crystals, and his urine had to be acidified by Science Diet CD. Now, older, he is making 'calcium oxylates' and his urine must be kept alkaline. Every day I pump 1 ml of potassium citrate down his throat twice. The Science Diet Oxyl is not adequate to keep the urine pH in the correct range.

So I feel your pain.
