Top Iran cleric wishes death for Bush, Sharon

A hardline Iranian cleric yesterday called for the deaths of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and U.S. President George W. Bush.

"If it be through the death of Sharon or the death of Bush, please brighten-up our hearts, O Lord," Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati told thousands of worshippers gathered at the Tehran University campus in a sermon broadcast on state radio.

The remarks by the hardline cleric, who heads the powerful Guardian Council, highlighted Iran's tense relations with its arch-enemies, Israel and the United States.

Jannati is known for his fiery rhetoric during Friday prayer sermons, which are often interrupted by chants of "Death to America" and "Death to Israel".

Bush has denounced Iran, along with Iraq and North Korea, as part of an "axis of evil" bent on supporting terrorism and acquiring weapons of mass destruction. The Islamic republic rejects both charges.

Iran, which has close ties with militant groups, has been vocal in its condemnation of Israel during a Palestinian intifada, or uprising in which at least 908 Palestinians and 280 Israelis have been killed. Iran condemns Israeli attacks on Palestinians.

This isn't some third world nation where the death of the head of state would throw it into turmoil. President Cheney would then take proper action.

Pray for GWB

You know, its actaully good that we hear from these Islamic dictators in Iran once in awhile to refresh the world's memory on how oppressive, corrupt and barbaric these so-called Islamic religous leaders are.

I agree with you. I am extremely disappointed that so-called peaceful Muslim leaders around the world don't loudly condemn this hate rhetoric. Their silence is deafening and, I think, an indication that even the peaceful Muslims are not peaceful, but really want to kill us and destroy our prosperous nation of which they and all the other have-nots in the world are so envious.

Sadly, their university campus doesn't a lot different than some of our own. After saying such "open-minded" things this guy will probably be a guest at Berkeley sometime in the near future.

More anti-American brainwashing of Iran's youth.

What this dude fails to realize is that theres a good share of 250 million Americans that wouldn't mind seeing him kick the old bucket, and if indeed he were to get his wish a few hundred thousand of those Americans may pay his country a visit.

Course, that's provided that there is anything left after the Israelis let loose. Apparently no one in the region remembers the 6 day war.

The top quote is from London's left wing "New Statesman" in another post. Of course, the lower is from this post. The top is a result of our opposition to leftist terrorists in Columbia. The second is from fundamentalist Islam. This seems a marriage made in hell.

My immediate reaction to this piece of scurrility was "Thank God the United States isn't the sort of country that can be crippled by the deeds or demise of a single individual." Then I remembered Bill Clinton, and suddenly I wasn't so sure.

Better that they be interrupted by chants of "Oh, $#i+! Incoming Missiles!"

Here it is:

The Ayatollah Khomeini responding to apologists for Islam
(Taheri, Amir, Holy Terror, London 1987, pp. 226-7):

Islam makes it incumbent on all adult males, provided they are not disabled and incapacitated, to prepare themselves for the conquest of other [countries] so that the writ of Islam is obeyed in every country in the world. But those who study Islamic Holy War will understand why Islam wants to conquer the whole world...Those who know nothing of Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war. Those [who say this] are witless. Islam says: Kill all the unbelievers just as they would kill you all! Does this mean that Muslims should sit back until they are devoured [by the unbelievers]? Islam says: Kill them [the non-Muslims], put them to the sword and scatter [their armies]. Does this mean sitting back until [non-Muslims] overcome us? Islam says: Kill in the service of Allah those who may want to kill you! Does this mean that we should surrender to the enemy? Islam says: Whatever good there is exists thanks to the sword and in the shadow of the sword! People cannot be made obedient except with the sword! The sword is the key to Paradise, which can be opened only for Holy Warriors! There are hundreds of other [Koranic] psalms and Hadiths [sayings of the Prophet] urging Muslims to value war and to fight. Does all that mean that Islam is a religion that prevents men from waging war? I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.

Also from him:

We shall export our revolution, to the whole world. Until the cry 'Allahu Akbar' resounds over the whole world.
