The question is who will outlast who? Sharon or Saddam?

On the Left, however, there is a growing sense that peace and security can be achieved only through dialogue.

I see their liberals are just as stupid as ours are. This is a war of attrition, and the enemy has demographics on their side. Israel had better make the body count a bit more lopsided if she is to prevail.

Gonna give you a little bitty clue. Nations at war tend to become more socialist. Go take a look at US history.

Off the topic of Israel, you're right. Is anyone listening?

By definition, a nation at war or even just on a war footing (South Korea good example) will be ruled by a government that will command more economic resources. Ergo will be more socialist. There is no way around this.

Many libertarian and free market types have a childish view of how nations must defend themselves. Even so I will admit that many libertarians are very pro Israel and understand much of what's going on there as far as the lies and spin and how Israel must fight back with great strength to show the Arabs and Pallies what it's all about..........

Something must be holding him (Sharon) back.

My guess is it is not the USA but the lefties, many of them Jews, who have accussed him of being a mass murderer for years on end. That takes a toll on a person.

Sharon's arrogance in telling the world that Arafat is not acceptable, when he himself is not acceptable because of ruthless massacres and deceit, takes the cake. As the Arab world agrees to a settlement under Arafat's terms, Sharon kept him confined, ignored the opportunity for peace, thus resulting in increased killing of Israelis. Be gone, Sharon!

I have been vexed with Israel's pacifism lately and have given it alot of thought. I think we have put Sharon in this postion, and we may pay a heavy price for it. The time in the distant past, when Sharon became a hero, is long ago and far away. Since then we have armed every freaking country surrounding Israel, most especially Egypt, and trained military from Afghanistan to Saudi.

Sharon knows the odds will be even less in Israel's favor in any future confrontation. What he fails to understand is that God is on their side and God can turn the most elderly man in Jerusalem into a roaring lion of a military machine in battle if it comes to that.

When the Jews won the battle for their right to exist as a nation, the odds were heavy against them, millions of Arabs against about 50 to a 100 thousand Jews, even though the people they were fighting were poorly equipped and still had their heads in the 1st century, it was still a miracle that they were victorious. Everything is different now, but our unchanging God, they should trust Him more.

“In the end there has to be a diplomatic solution. Without one, this land will know another 100 years of war.”

Without war there will be no diplomatic solution. We did what to Japan? We did what to Germany? It was followed by the only diplomatic solution that always brought peace… Surrender terms; Works every time.

Do not forget, wars are always preceded by myriads of diplomatic "solutions".

a settlement under Arafat's terms = the destruction of Israel

Take your terrorist propaganda elsewhere.

Isn't Sharon and Netanyahu the same as far as what they would do with this situation?

Yup...Exactly !

They have only two choices:

1) Wipe out Yassar and his gang or

2) Give up land for peace

That's the two choices and it will never ever change !

Disgusting is the only word I'll waste on this, when some Israeli people deliberately target a school of children. The same group who plotted bombing a mosque in L.A. No Palestian has ever sunk that low, even if children have been inadvertently victims. It is obvious who the true terrorists are.
