My initial reaction is to vote for a third party candidate and hope if he gets enough votes, and it causes the Republicans to lose the presidency it will send them a message.

Something that you can do right NOW is go to vote.com - they are voting on this issue right now. This site does not allow repeated voting so it has a good reputation and they will send the results to GWB and Congress.

It's not blanket amnesty. This is to help out business. I'm all for it.

Is evil legislation passed by the turncoats in our own party less threatening than evil legislation passed by our enemies?

I have seen the enemy.  It is us.  For if we fail to speak out against treachery committed in our midst, we have become the problem not the solution.

As a thirty-two year Republican until the year 2000, I must ask people to please, please, please, take a look at what we have become if we are willing to support men the likes of which have passed some of the recent ominious legislation.

Mr. President, you swore an oath.  So did our Congressman and Senators.  If you and they are unwilling to abide by that oath, step down.

If you wish to work on behalf of the United Nations, the nation of Mexico or any other, step down now and persue your desires.  I will wish you well.  But when it comes to our own nation, we deserve to have a man represent and uphold our Constitution, our sovereignty and our borders.

In light of Bush's actions, I cannot support him in his efforts to serve another four years.  IMO the least we should accept is a person who will abide by the Constitution.  Hell, they swear to do so.  How can we possibly fail to swear to make sure they do so?

I was told that Bush would conform to the Constitution. I was told that he would surprise me. Well, on the former he has surprised me. He's surprised a number of people who voted for him too. In the year 2000 I took a pounding for saying I didn't think Bush would far different than a warmed over Democrat. Well, I think it's time for those who promised otherwise to step up to the plate and demand that we replace him with someone who is more like what we were promised Bush would be.

It's time to clean house!

I realize the GOP base wants pure conservatism from Dubya. The fact of the matter is that if the GOP is going to reclaim the senate, keep the house and reelect GWB, it is going to have to appeal to swing voters. The things that count to conservatives remain safe with the president...

Lets not shoot ourselves in the foot!!!!

I was so angry last night, I wrote the following to president@whitehouse.gov:

To Whoever Is Reading This:
If you want to keep your job another term, you best tell your boss he'd better explain why he pushed for the amnesty legislation.
His core constituency is pissed. What a total betrayal. I stood in zero degree weather at Mr. Bush's inauguration.

You ask your boss, for what?
At least Democrats are honest about how much they hate America.

To add salt to the wound, this is the autoresponse I got:
Thank you for emailing President Bush. Your ideas and comments are very important to him.

If your message is about the September 11 terrorist attack on the United States, please click go to www.whitehouse.gov to learn more about the American response and to receive or provide help in the recovery efforts.

As the President said recently, one in three Afghan children is an orphan and almost half suffer chronic malnutrition. He has asked American children to help Afghan children by making contributions of one dollar individually or collectively to:

America's Fund for Afghan Children C/O The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, DC 20509-1600

For more information, go to www.whitehouse.gov/afac/

Oh yeah. A Democrat president will learn them good.

It's not that I don't appreciate the spiteful mindset, I do, really I do, but come on. Four years of another Democrat? Does that really sound like a fair trade to you?

I didn't vote for Bush thinking he would do everything I wanted. I guess some of you did. Every month or two he does something that "loses the vote" of quite a few of you. How many times can he lose your vote, and where will you go with that vote if one of these times he actually has lost it?

Is it time for a new party

You got my attention there. The Republican Party has been bought lock, stock and barrel by the neo-con One Worlders and is thus beyond redemption. At least for the time being. Only a serious challenge to the cozy duopoly of power will force the parties to become responsive to their electorate. As it stands they are the best parties money can buy.

No matter what Bush does, the Bush-lovers on this site will stand by him. Some Republicans are as slaveishly devoted to Bush as Democrats were with Clinton. As long as Bush backs big-business, they will fawn to him. I would sugguest that you start brushing up on your Spanish, because in another ten years, you won't recognize the United States.

I feel angry too Michael. This amnesty is a slap at the legal immigration into this country --- at the very legal system, acutally. The lesson is: if you break the law, do so in great numbers.

Even worse: the citizens who are natualized this way will never have deep resspect for our laws, for the fundations of this nation. It is like becoming a priest by stealing papers confirming that one is ordaned; like staring an honest life by lying. That does not work.

As for the other comment, I would prefer to work from within the party: starting a new party is harder than starting a business, and building up even the latter takes time. The party is what it stands for, not its name. Look what happened to Democrats: is this the part of even John Kennedy? Similarly, for Republicans: we've got to make it work and make it more inclusive.

P.S. Incidentally, I do not think Bush was so simplistic and did that to buy Spanish-speaking voters. There is a broader audience addressed here --- all those who sympathize with them.

I just read the first screen and just sorry I got into the thread this late.

Go to the Tancredo doubts he can block amnesty-extension bill thread. There are a lot of people (myself included) that feel the same way as you.

Here's an idea. Open the border. Give em absolutely counterfeit proof IDs linked to one mainframe computer and network. Make it impossible for them to get on any form of welfare.

Build even more factories in Mexico. Get filthy rich on the economic explosion that would result.

The three hundred million of us already here would have to work harder to help them become good Americans. It's kinda like the drug war. Can't win it. We should just go around it.

The culture of Mexico is irrelevant. The only reason immigrants weaken our nation is if they are able to get free money through income redistribution.

Stop the great fed tax ripoff and immigration from Mexico would not be a threat. We can absorb all the Mexicans who want to come here. I don't even think it will be more than around ten million or so.

Once the economy of Mexico comes up the influx will taper off. Most Mexicans I know are very homesick. They are only here for the money.

I thought the house passed it. Bush hasn't passed anything. If he signs it I will still support him. He has done a great job so far.I don't have anything against hispanics or keeping families together.
