I have read the contents of the amnesty bill as posted here on FR.

Then you agree that the reaction to it has been simple hysteria? I am assuming for a moment that you are rational and can see that the ONE thread that posted the ENTIRE bill completely rebuts the foaming at the mouth idiocy of the other 6 threads that told the reader what was in the bill instead of letting the reader decide for themselves.

There is a lot of hysteria surrounding this bill. What I read indicates that an alien, here illegally, may "adjust" his status to that of an alien making application for some other recognized status (other than an "illegal" alien). The bill also seems to allow such applicants to stay in the country until such time as their case can be reviewed and a decision made by the INS.

Since prior to the extension, they were "illegal" and therefore subject to arrest and deportation, this bill would appear to give an "amnesty" of sorts. In any event, it would allow them to stay in our country, and as such "reward" them for violation of the immigration laws. What it really appears to be is a govt protection/extortion rackett.(pay the fee or else)

It's a bad bill and deserves a full heaping of scorn. What it demonstrates (along with other moves he's making)to me is that Bush has principles when it's convienient.
