In order to prevent this stuff you have to be able to predict who does it, and given the nature of the crimes these people are already used to hiding their predilictions. A quick Google search turned up articles and legal documents from last year, when this guy AND HIS WIFE were indicted. It seems Mrs. Patterson (now ex) was actively involved in helping her dear husband carry out these charming activities.
