Gang of Children Accused in Pennsylvania Home Invasion

BALDWIN, Pa. (March 17, 2002 12:36 p.m. EST) - Police said they will file charges against at least seven children, ages 8 to 12, for allegedly invading the apartment of two young women, groping them and stealing their food.

Paperwork will be filed Monday to schedule juvenile court hearings on charges including robbery, indecent assault, trespassing and conspiracy, said officials in the suburb of Pittsburgh.

"I've never seen anything in 20 years where you have a group of kids this young who would act up in this fashion to go into a house or an apartment and remove food and sexually assault the people living there," police Sgt. Dan Turner said.

Police were still investigating Sunday and said it was possible more children could be charged.

The children remain in their parents' custody.

The women, ages 18 and 21, said they opened their door Wednesday evening after hearing pebbles being thrown against their windows and a knock on the door.

Five boys surrounded the women, overpowering them and groping them, while two girls helped themselves to food in the refrigerator, police said. The women yelled for help and their boyfriends chased the children away.

The women were not seriously hurt, Police Chief Christopher Kelly said.

Kelly said that in addition to filing charges, police will seek to have the children's families evicted from the Green Meadows housing complex where the incident occurred.

Reports of drug abuse, vandalism, child neglect and unsupervised children are rampant at the 1,071-unit complex, police said.

"There's a lot of young kids around here, and when it's dark they think they can do whatever they want," said Nick Staab, 16, who has lived in the complex for four years. "The other night I was walking my dog and a group of little kids picked up chunks of brick and tried to beat me."

Borough officials said they've complained to the owner, Home Properties of Rochester, N.Y.

Nobody answered calls seeking comment at the company's headquarters on Sunday

I replies to you before I saw this:

On one of the Pittsburgh news programs the other night, a Baldwin police officer was asked whether the department would be increasing patrols as a result of this incident. He hesitated and said they're already stretched thin enough and couldn't patrol more than they do -

Chased? There'd be some seriously sore rear-ends if I were the 'boyfriend'.

In fact, some of the kids might think they were taking part in a Peter Pan skit.

Apparently, the boyfriends were inadequate to combat the children's "tiny fists of fury."

The women should invest in something like this.

Is this another instance of black on black crime? Lets remember that we can't put blacks in prison (or I presume juvenile hall) because of thier disproportionate representation there. It would be racist to do so.

Every time I see a story that is almost certain to include a minority perp, it gauls me to see it go unconfirmed. These stories are sanitized so that the populace will not realize what's really going on.

Perhaps I'm off base here, but I think this story is more than likely a good example of just what I'm talking about.

the perfectly logical first step in the seizer process conducted by law enforcement.

Hey, you are probably right. The "seizure" powers sweeping our nation is corrupting our "protectors" to the core. Long ago, Frederic Bastiat wrote a short book called "The Law," and it's first chapter opens with the words ...

"The Law perverted! And the police powers of the state perverted along with it! The law, I say, not only turned from its proper purpose but made to follow an entirely contrary purpose! The law become the weapon of every kind of greed! Instead of checking crime, the law itself guilty of the evils it is supposed to punish!"

From your lips to God's (and government's) ears. Unfortunately, it will never happen because the democraps would lose too many lockstep votes.

By the way, did you ever smell the inside of one of these subsidized flop houses where the mothers (and their assorted, sordid boyfriends) lay around all day?

Then you'd be charged with child abuse.

That was my first thought. What, if anything, can one do when your home is invaded by 8 year-olds? If one was to excersize self-defense and one of the "little children" was hurt, that individual would be castigated in the press and likely charged. Yet these little terrors are very capable of inflicting serious physical harm --or worse, on their targets. Sure, they are pint-sized little thugs, but they are violent thugs nonetheless.

I'll be curious to see how quickly this story drops from the radar. Of course, I'm sure it is hardly news to the people relegated to live in this type of liberal paradise.

Yes ---I've been in a number of them --and I feel sorry for any decent person trying to raise their kids in one. Within 2 years of construction, most are in the right condition to be torn to the ground.

Lord of the flies.

Boy, you nailed that one. Good call. I'd forgotten that book. Scared the sh!t out of me when I read it as a kid 40 years ago.

Then I'll plead insanity. I'll tell the judge that I had considered giving them a bath, but changed my mind.

The eight year old under my jurisdiction knows his rear end would be forfeit if he were ever to think about such abomination.

My apartment complex's maintenance guy also does work on some Section-8 housing. He tells me that these tenents are incapable of even the most basic upkeep on their residencies (even though they pay practically nothing --if that, for them). A burned out porchlight won't get replaced until the landlord comes by and does it. The same with simple interior repairs like a closet door coming off the tracks.

These people have become so used to having everything provided for that they are incapable of doing anything for themselves. And since many of the property owners are out of state, things never get fixed and the places turn into hell-holes quickly.

I used to live near this huge complex. Its owners change the name of the place every couple of years because its reputation is so bad.

Cheer up - St. Clair Village is being rebuilt - where you make sure you have a full tank of gas before you drive through it!

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the local authorities and the owner of the complex are launching a new crime-fighting program.

I didn't even know Baldwin had projects :(
