WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Colin Powell has discussed the church attack with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf who assured him of cooperation in bringing those behind it to justice even as investigations into the incident, which claimed the lives of five people, including two Americans, were continuing.
Pakistan is investigating, with US assistance, the church bombing incident in Islamabad on Sunday and is committed to hunting down the attacker involved in the killing, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said here on Monday.
He said Powell has spoken to Musharraf about the incident and so has US Ambassador to Islamabad Wendy Chamberlin. South Asia Assistant Secretary of State Christina Rocca, who cancelled all her engagements in New Delhi, met with the interior and foreign ministers of Pakistan.
He said the call took place on Monday morning, following the Sunday attack, which killed a total of five people besides injuring 14 others.
Both Pakistani ministers, said Boucher, reiterated the Pakistani government's commitment to cooperate fully with the US and their determination to see that justice is done.
"He spoke to President Musharraf...about this and I'd say that we have cooperation in this matter and commitment to bringing people to justice."
He noted that the US has condemned the attack as a "barbaric and cowardly terrorist attack on civilians" and warned US citizens around the world to beware of fresh attacks.
