[history]
Calls for a world tax to help fight poverty have surfaced anew at a Mexico summit on development that President Bush will attend tomorrow and were immediately rebuffed by the White House.
Global tax proposals have called for the United Nations or other international institutions to tax activities such as airline travel, currency transfers and carbon emissions

V. Fox is another in a long line of Mexican Leftist/Fascist and certainly no friend of the USA. He will be gone soon due to his ineffectivness as a leader...we certainly do not owe him or his country anything. We should tax them for the illegal immigrants abusing our social & medical services as well as being a conduit for drugs. They could pay in oil!!!

Why aren't we pestering him about his country's massive drug trafficking, bribery, and human smuggling problems?

" Last week, Mr. Bush pledged a $5 billion increase in U.S. foreign aid in each of the next three years and suggested the money be given as grants to countries with relatively stable financial and political systems. "
So we stop combat air patrols at home and we allow anyone across our borders....pay our un dues....then give away 5 billion more each year for the next 3 years ( which is a 30 billion increase)and we wait for the next attack from this friendly world.
Thanks dubya.

World tax violates every jurisdiction but more over common sense taxes on imports and not on exports type worldwide competition rationale. Taxes on carbon emissions? When carbon emissions are actually a produced good that increases agricultural yield, I can hardly see why carbon emissions are taxable in the first place.
What about the oxygen we breath. Oh, I see, tax the middle class for breathing at all, let the dead rule. That is a death cult indeed.

I appreciate the comments about drugs arriving to the U.S. through Mexico, but its easy to blame somebody else. In reality though, its a U.S. problem that wouldnt exist if the U.S. didnt have such an insatiable appetite for drugs.

Why doesn't Presidente Fox ask for "open borders for Mexican lawyers"?
Now that's something we all might support - save for the trial attorneys!

Global tax proposals have called for the United Nations or other international institutions to tax activities .... with the receipts going to either pay the U.N. budget or to fund international development projects in the Third WorldThere's the bottom line - the fatcat, overpaid, do-nothing (of value) socialist administrators and bureaucrats at the U.N. - photo below - want to get richer and richer, while pretending to do something for the poor.

I'll bump to hear those people tell us how this is a great boon for conservatives.

Where are all the naysayers?
Post this to an Immigration thread and you'll find several hundred who will make it a Bush failure of some kind.

No doubt.

...it was immediately rebuffed by the whitehouse. Why?
Mr. Cronin said that "in the right time, there could be a serious discussion" about global taxes.
How about a "world tax" is unconstitutional taxation without representation? I guess American sovereignty is too insignificant a reason? Is that good enough for you Bush-bots*?
*Credit for the term Bush-bots goes to William Grigg.
