Sabertooth ... a pro active approach, something you can do Monday, is to find out who your County Commissioner is, contact he or she, and find out if ... and why ... you are paying for the health care and housing and food for individuals who are NOT residents of your county. The County generally disperses all the federal and state welfare aid and provides the health care AND the court and jail facilities. They're the ones paying the bill for all these illegal and unacceptable taxpayer entitlements to Mexican citizens. Get about 50 of your neighbors who are also legitimately outraged, and go to the next County Board meeting. One at a time, go to the mike and share the challenges you all have providing for your own family in this volatile economy. One after another, ask questions, make them quantify .... they can't ... and then justify the largesse. How much in free medical care? How much in AFDC, or California's aid, how much in court costs and jail maintenance costs for these people? You guys are paying for it through the nose. Let's face it, you can't go over to another county and immediately get benefits, you're not a legal resident. We'd all quit our jobs and just go on a 2000 county "sign me up" road trip if it was that easy. Make the scummy pols articulate why some Mexican national warrants one penny of your tax money. Do it, put some fire under the arses of those county pigdogs ... you want to talk about a "shadow government", generally a county governing authority is conducted without any media scrutiny or legislative oversight. They spend all that HHS and HUD and Food Stamp federal money, as well as the State social giveaways.

You've obviously researched the issue, you are authentically outraged, and you and every other citizen of your county deserves an explanation why you are paying for the food, housing, transportation and medical care of ... and here's what I'd hammer - someone who is not a legal resident of the county. Grab you best friend from the next county and walk him to the mike and ask if he can get medical care, housing, school vouchers etc ... oh, and he lives in another county. Make them differentiate between your pal and the Sanchez family of four recently arrived from Juarez. You'll pick these arrogant dullards apart. There's going to be 30 folks right behind you to pound home the point. And, ain't nobody leaving until everyone is done.

That's how you change stuff. You can't control the number of illegal immigrants in your community, but you can damn sure influence whether you support them with your tax money or not. If your county cuts them off, they may go next door. Well, rally those folks too. If the politicians quit supporting the interlopers, eventually those who don't work will have to go back to Mexico. It's the local politicians that are the problem, and therefore the solution. I talked to my Comissioner, Randy Johnson, and at this juncture there are no welfare benefits (to his questionable knowledge) or non-emergency medical care authorized for non-residents of Hennepin County. He's going to check with the Dept of Human Services on Monday ... and I told him I was going to follow up, and ready to appear at the next Council meeting with pissed-off backup if we're paying for illegals - Hmong, Somali, Mexican or whatever. That's what we all have to do Sabertooth. Bitching about it on Free Republic solves nothing. It's the creep politicians and "advocates" that reach into your pocket and blatantly gives your bankroll to some "undocumented" Mexican national. The bureaucrats need to be exposed and beyach slapped. The immigrant on the receiving end just takes what some government agent gives them and keeps their mouth shut. Turn the light on the cockroaches. You'll have a blast.

And then you confront the school district. Illegals admitted into non-English speaking programs is unbelievably expensive.

By the way ... if California is screwed up, you and your neighbors let it get that way. I can say that with confidence even from the frozen tundra. Me? I'd do my best, and if the majority sentiment in California is to underwrite several million Mexican citizens, I'd pack my bags and move. That's the beauty of a 50 state Union. In Minnesota, if you speak up, if you get involved ... the politicians bend over backwards to address your concerns. It's really unique, I left a message for Larry Pogemiller(a Democrat mucky muck in the state Senate) on Tuesday and he called me back Wednesday afternoon. They are in session. I had a concern about a Twins stadium bill that I was able to communicate, even after I identified myself as an IR regular on the voice mail. That's pretty solid. I like that part of Minnesota, everybody is accessable, but if I ever become fed up ... I like Austin and Chicago and Reno and Seattle and Fort Myers. You need to feel some sort of a common community in the state you live, otherwise you are going to feel miserable and helpless. That's no way to live. Or, you move to a community out of state where you have shared values with your neighbors. You can't make other people (legally here) leave, but you can.

I have a brother and sister who live in the Los Angeles metro but I would never live in California. I wouldn't accept the State's acquiescence to some bozo like Thelton Henderson, who single handedly overturned the will of the people. That's the California AG's responsibility, regardless of party, to move aggressively against that injunction. The politicians and judges in your State don't give a rip about the best fiduciary interests and will of it's taxpayer citizens. The jackasses of both parties don't like referendums, so they just find a semi-catatonic ringer in the psychopathic 9th Circuit and the vote never happened. I'll bet Thelton gets some sweet Kings tickets. Gray Davis is a typical Democrat operator, and former power-czar Willie Brown is nothing but a thug and bag man. Bad stuff, and there seem to be some really unsavory people at the helm of your state.

I don't dispute your choice, the State is awesome. Lots of folks live in California. 80% wander around in blissful and costly ignorance, 15% are getting rich off the taxpayer booty, and ... Saber, you are part of the 5% who sees the truth and feels powerless to address it. Just kick ass on these slugs, make everyone take a short breath when you walk into a public meeting. Call the damn AG and ask him why he's not litigating the injunction on 187. Make sure your taxes are in order. ;^)

I am really starting to moderate on this issue, big time. The other day it really seemed like the end of the world but now I think the GOP will still manage to come out on top. I am NOT saying i am pleased with Bush on this...i am still deeply disappointed. But it may not cost him my vote....especially is hillary is running. We will see what he does....I have been hopeful by what he says about tax reform for one thing. Do I support the destruction of my free speech........of course not. I still want Bush to refuse to enforce this portion and also sue to force other parts of the govt. to not enforce it as well. I still would prefer a veto, but maybe he can do it in a different way and still take the high ground. I will be disappointed if he just signs it and then supports the ad provision. But, I believe he has decided to sign this for a higher reason. EVen still, it does greatly bother me that he would abdicate his Constitutional responsibility. I hope he will veto still.

What do you think media is, if not a collection of individuals who get together to provide news?

Actually, the "media" is composed of Corporations. Seems to me that if they express an opinion or refer to a candidate 60 days prior to an election, the heads of those corporations can be put in jail.

Anyone want to get together to file charges?

Could groups still gather money from doners and use it to buy an ad? If so, it is not AS bad as what I thought. It still is not great though.

Heck, even I enjoyed it. I about went off the deep end myself when Bush said he was going to sign this, but some of the utter ignorance I have seen on here is really quite embarrassing....some people actually think this bill could be used to damage FR or something. Nonsense! It is not a good bill, but it is not so bad as to be the end of FR.

Thank you rw for your patience ;^). But let's be prepared and proactive, because I'm an optimistic "get me a full glass dammit" kind of guy ... the "strongly suggested" way you could, well should, have phrased that post was:

"Tengo al admi que pensé esto era más bien humorístico.... Necesité algo chistoso en este tiempo de la tristeza"

I don't know, I transcribed that roughly from a seemingly dramatic Erik Estrada "acting moment". I don't speak Spanish, but I think he's referring in some way to his swarthy stupor. It's a shame. Erik could have been as big as that one Latino guy -not the guy fathered by Fernando Llamas - the other guy who quit LA LAW and who now works as the Latino guy with Dennis Franz - as big and famous as him!

If only he hadn't been taped clubbing the crap out of Rodney King.

It was really a quirk of fate - the wrong place at the wrong time. Ponch was usually tearing up the disco floor with Adrian Zmed during that shift. Life is peculiar that way ... it's a fine line between greatness and Univision.

It is not a good bill, but it is not so bad as to be the end of FR.

Don't worry about that. Michael Rivero meticulously described the end of FR, and there's no need for concern as long as this website can avoid air travel ...

What I've gotten from you is two non-answers.
If you can't answer the question why are you trying?
