Saw films of this years ago on PBS. Cutting ones flesh as a form of worship is considered a pagan practice by Jewish law. It further confirms the assumption that Islam's origin was from a form of paganism.

Body piercing and tattooing are out in the Jewish law. Pierced ears for earrings are OK I guess....and only for the women.
