You just never know how outsiders view us in Mississippi

'Scuse me, but I gotta go out in front of the trailer and fertilize the weeds growing around that '63 Ford. You know, the one up on cinder blocks.

Never been to Mississippi, but it sounds like a right friendly place.

Now I have been to NC and thought it sucked.

He complained that everything was fried, even the pickles.

What a health-obsessed loser. Fried dill pickles are some of the finest food to ever come out of a catfish house! I never had any until I moved to Mississippi (and they're not just restricted to catfish houses). Bet he complained about having a whole fish- eyes and all of course- on his plate: breeds over-eating no doubt.

Here's a good Mississippi website. Make sure to have your sound volume turned up.

Good thing Mississippi gave us Trent Lott.

Where would Conservatives be without his leadership?

Hey, there's no call to go saying that about North Carolina. Don't you know we were first place in trailers until South Carolina just knocked us out of the top spot, and we're still in the top five in outhouses.

Good morning Mr. Dawg...interesting article...I have lived in three separate and distinct places in my life...many, many years born and raised in Chicago...then on to 5 yrs in North Carolina, and going on to 20 yrs here in Western Washinton State...spent shorter periods living in California, Pennsylvania and New Jersey...

What I have learned from all of this living in different places, is that its really stupid to have preconceived notions of what a certain part of a country is like to live in

When we move around to various parts of the country, we look at it like an adventure...when we have moved into a new area, we dont even try to compare it to where we have lived before...thats not fair at all...we just try to meld into an area of the country, and its ways, its culture, its people, its foods, its language, whatever sets that area of the country apart...its more fun that way, and you get to learn a little something about the area and yourself...

Here is a funny little story...when we first moved to the rural area of North Carolina, we had quite a nosy, but nice mailman....he talked and talked away his day, while delivering the mail...if you there out front waiting for your mail, you had to stop and talk with old 'Ray', as his name way..he looked to be near retirement age, but I dont believe he ever want to retire..he liked his route, it got him out and about, and picked up all the local news and gossip from the people he delivered mail to...and you just knew he perused all of your mail, noting exactly who was sending you mail and from where...

After a few months of delivering my mail, he asked me if I was from Chicago..I said, yes, we have moved to NC because of hubbys military time at Ft. Bragg..he said he could not believe it, because I seemed to be a nice young lady, with a couple of nice boys...I was confused by his attitude, and asked him why he thought that..

Apparently old Ray, had lived all of his life in a tiny little rural area of NC, and all his notions of Chicago life, seemed to have been taken from old gangster movies from teh 40s and 50s...he seemed to think Al Capone types were still driving the streets and shooting at everyone with machine guns(of course this in the late 70s before drive by shootings became popular)......

So while I tried to abstain from having preconceived ideas of what the south might be like, I found a native Carolinian, have very wrong preconceived ideas...

If people just get out, and visit a place, they will see that it may be very different from what they thought...

No problem. The music from Deliverance is a nice touch.

LOL! Yep. I got to see a lot of the country (and Europe) when I was in the Navy. I found out that I loved it all. I'm partial to Mississippi though cause I was born and raised here and I prefer a rural lifestyle. Just can't beat living in these hardwood hills.

I was born in Boonsville, my mom in Burnsville, and dad in Tupelo, same as Elvis. We moved to Chicago when I was six months old, and lived there until dad was recruited by Boeing. I have lived in Seattle ever since. Mississippi has the some of the most beautiful women, look at any Miss America pagent. The catfish and hushpuppies are very tasty. My relatives in the south are all #1. I am proud to be a southern and think Elvis's version of Dixie is the best.

I can honestly say I have never step foot on Ft. Bragg, had no desire to jump out of a perfectly good airplane, now fast roping out of a Huey is something altogether different.
