Nobody has to give money to the Catholic Church, and fewer Catholics will if they see all their money going to victims of priestly pederasty. I'm not sure it's primarily a problem of pederasty (molestation of prepubescent boys), I think the problem is more of priestly chickenhawking of young teenage boys, and the silent complicity of the other actively homosexual priests in doing nothing to stop it.
Remember: homosexuals don't reproduce, they recruit! And that goes for homosexual priests as well.
In all fairness, though, we Protestants have similar sexual problems, plus financial scandals too. *sigh* I've been tempted to join the Orthodox -- it would be nice to be part of a church that doesn't end up in the headlines for all the wrong reasons.
