At this time, our faculty had done away totally with the dress code, had us out on the streets protesting the war, and was very much into left wing 'liberation theology'.

Were the anti-war activist Berringers (sp) Jesuits?

I think your observations of what started in the late '60s in the Church is very pertinent to what is coming home to roost today.

The Jesuits have been suppressed before, and the Pope could suppress all sorts of orders etc.

Whatever the demon accomplishes for evil, God permits so that a greater good may be drawn therefrom.

Yes, the dominant Jesuits at L.H.S. at that time (early 70s) were the Dan Berrigan types who celebrated Cesar Chaves etc and took kids to anti war demonstrations. The older Spencer Tracy types were effectively shut out of the loop.

I can only surmise that "gay lib" crept in with the rest of the "liberation theology". And those chickens have indeed come home to roost.
