I would think that 'getting his speach in' HEBREW 'via a translator' is much more normal a way to get his words, since I think it is certain that he was speaking that language, not Yiddish, which most Israelis (former Russians, Sephardic Jews, and Jewish immigrants from Arab countries), can't speak.
