Agreed. I think where people are frustrated is that there was no explanation (not that we are owed one. We are all lucky to have FR as it is). It was just done. There was a beta test and then *wham* a whole new format.
People who liked it the way it was are confused as to why it needed to be changed, and that confusion is punctuated by the fact that no one really knows why it was changed.
