Help Me Identify This Voice of Reason on Reparations

Posted on 03/30/2002 10:56:57 AM PST by Jesse Segovia

This morning on a cable news discussion program on, I believe, MSNBC, the host and three guests were discussing the dreaded slave reparations lawsuits. Two guests, a white woman and black man, were in support of the lawsuits but the third, a black man, was against. He was very articulate and appealed to logic, as opposed to the for-guests who dealt mostly with anger and revenge, uh, righting past wrongs.

Can anyone tell me the name of the black speaker who spoke against reparations? I just caught the very end and was unable to indentify either him or his organization, which was something like the Citizens for Equality. Thanks very much in advance.

My guesses would be Walter Williams or the Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson (www.bondinfo.org).

No, I think the man's name was something like Nissar Liston. I've NEVER seen Walter Williams on TV - does he ever do the forum shows?

His last name is Innes. I think his first name is Richard, but I'm not sure. He is with the "something" for racial equality, it could be the Coalition for Racial Equality.

Yes, he is very articulate. I appreciated the point Innes made about the shared repsonsibility of West Africans for the slave trade.

Niger (pronounced "Nye-jer") Innis. Some talking head idiot mispronounced his name a while back, making it a racial slur, but Mr.Innis was very gracious about it. I believe he's Roy Innis' son.

Niger Innis on the left, Roy Innis on the right, from the CORE web site.

Yes, it was Niger Innis. Thanks to everyone who replied.

I'm going to have to pay attention to him and his organization. I assume his father shares his beliefs?
