The fact that, now, these Arab governments are using their police to try to restrain these anti-Israel anti-US demonstrations is Very Significant. Used to be that the Arab governments actually encouraged such demonstrations (at least the anti-Israel demonstrations) and had the police make sure that everyone was out in the street marching and yelling. Why the reverse now? Because the logical result of these demonstrations would be for the Arab government to do something - - like live up to its threat to attack Israel. Now that Israel has nuclear capability, the Arab governments are just sabre rattling and any public pressure to back up their threats with real action is a terrible embarrassment. Arafat is discovering that he was egged on by a bunch of fair weather friends.
