Statement of Israeli Defense Force Refusniks
http://www.seruv.org.il/defaulteng.asp ^ | April 4, 2002 | Unattributed

Posted on 04/04/2002 1:06:30 PM PST by Seti 1

We, reserve combat officers and soldiers of the Israel Defense Forces, who were raised upon the principles of Zionism, sacrifice and giving to the people of Israel and to the State of Israel, who have always served in the front lines, and who were the first to carry out any mission, light or heavy, in order to protect the State of Israel and strengthen it.

• We, combat officers and soldiers who have served the State of Israel for long weeks every year, in spite of the dear cost to our personal lives, have been on reserve duty all over the Occupied Territories, and were issued commands and directives that had nothing to do with the security of our country, and that had the sole purpose of perpetuating our control over the Palestinian people. We, whose eyes have seen the bloody toll this Occupation exacts from both sides.

• We, who sensed how the commands issued to us in the Territories, destroy all the values we had absorbed while growing up in this country.

• We, who understand now that the price of Occupation is the loss of IDF’s human character and the corruption of the entire Israeli society.

• We, who know that the Territories are not Israel, and that all settlements are bound to be evacuated in the end.

• We hereby declare that we shall not continue to fight this War of the Settlements.

• We shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire people.

• We hereby declare that we shall continue serving in the Israel Defense Forces in any mission that serves Israel’s defense.

• The missions of occupation and oppression do not serve this purpose – and we shall take no part in them.

All the Israeli "heroes" are refusing to serve and yet your "heroes" are still running scared and hiding in churches. Imagine.

Interesting that Palestinians just drag their collaborators throught the streets after murdering them.

Note that some other peacenik article posted here yesterday claimed 1,000 of these.

I saw a poll on Fox today about world leaders, and the question was whether you have a "positive view" of those leaders. Saddam Hussein had a 2% positive approval rating. The man who would nuke the US if he had the means actually had some positive support.

What is the point here? 99% of the Israeli reserves came when called, leaving 1% not showing up, and signing their names to letters like you posted. I equate the moral intelligence of that Israeli 1% with the 2% of Americans who show positive support of Saddam.

It's not a news story. It's an anomaly.

So you consider 99% compliance as good military discipline. I would consider several hundred (some reports say 1000) officers and non-coms (3 navy captains!) refusing to obey orders as a very serious mutiny--as I am sure the IDF does. And that is out of a very small force.

Not to worry. Others will pick the slack the draft dodgers Leftie drop.

Some students at UC-Berkeley plan to join Israeli Army (Berkeley? YES - BERKELEY) :)))

Every country is at least 2% idiot. Some much greater than that (e.g. France).

Wouldn't it be nice if conscience and a sense of humanity could rub off onto the palestinian psyche.

Alas...a whole people have been bred as serial murderers and psychopathic misfits..........led by the spawn of the devil, Arafat.

"O Lord, remove the hate in their hearts and let them see the path to peace.......or smite the evil horde with a cauterizing pillar of your heavenly fire!"

The Israeli military reserves are 425,000 strong. I don't think that's very small. And if 1,000 jump ship, 1% is being generous.

Bunk! Reserve callup in the IDF in the recent war has been nearly 100% and whatever these malcontents and their Oslo Cult backers may say, 72% of Israelis support the war. The anti-Israel images on televisions in America are very misleading. During the Vietnam War, the press quoted liberally from draft dodgers and resisters and other anti-war opponents and created the impression they constituted a majority of American sentiment towards the War. It was not true. The vast majority of Israelis regard the IDF refuseniks not as principled conscientious objectors, but as traitors, cowards, and shirkers to the call to defend the country under attack. Now there's the real story the Oslo Cult media will never report.

...72% of Israelis support the war

I don't know where your number came from but if true I find it incredible that a nation under direct attack can fail to mobilize almost a third of the population. The US was not under attack by the Vietnamese. There was a big anti-war movement in the US on December 6, 1941 but it ended totally on December 7.

Israel must be doing something wrong. It has been condemned by every significant nation (except the US), The European Union, the Vatican, by several hundred of the IDF and by 28% of its population. Way to go, Sharon!

As I said on the original thread, these students are not among those who believe that writing fiery comments to Free Republic is what is meant by "Next year in Jerusalem".
