The first thing Israel should demand is the removal of all the inflammatory, anti-Israeli provisions of the PLO charter as the prelude for peace negotiations. Of course, the PLO will not do it.

The problem with Israel and the Arabs is simply they both reject to be secular nations that accept all people as equal. Therefore, by definition, the nation's religion gets preferential treatment, be it Judaism or Islam. The rest of the population will definitely feel oppressed, and discriminated against. How would our Jewish friends in America (or the Moslems) feel if we declared that we are a Christian nation, and started treating them like second class? Or better yet, started hate speeches against them? As it is they are always crying over a nativity scene in parks every Christmas season! How would you like to be a Jew living in Egypt or Iran, and having to endure daily doses of hate in your own media. Why can't the US force both the Arabs and the Israelis to abandon their official national religion idea? Please do not start with God and the promised land thing! We obviously can see how discrimination against others in South Africa, Ireland, and all the Arab countries, and yes in Israel can lead perfectly accommodating people into hostility toward their friends and neighbors. We all know that we all hate the teacher's pet. So why are we willing to accept privileges for certain people based on religion. If we in the west insist on separation of church and state, why don't we push that on the Arabs and the Israelis?
The PLO was a political terrorist organization, that discovered religion. The hate, and jihad proved to be a good resource to recruit stupid kids to be martyrs. WE should learn from that and help people tune down that religion thing. I know these are fighting words for the foaming at the mouth fundamentalist Christians, Jews, and Moslems. But guys we have to share this stupid earth, you know!
Apparently the rocks and trees haven't been cooperating very well since 1948.
