FWIW, I thought the spotted owl business was a fraud from the get-go, more about blocking off large tracts of woods, and ruining loggers ( and costing jobs ) than protecting the birdie. An I'm very fond of birds!

People who spent a lot of time in the woods knew that the spotted owls lived a lot of places other than in the hallowed "old growth" forests. That was just a lie and a scam to prevent logging.
