President George W. Bush has joined the United Nations in demanding that Israel withdraw its troops from the West Bank. He is so determined to enforce this demand that he dispatched Secretary of State Colin Powell to the Middle East to meet with Israel's prime minister to deliver the ultimatum personally. In light of America's response to acts of terrorism committed against this country, it seems the height of hypocrisy to make such a demand. After all, the United States has sent troops across the world to defend its interests against terrorists. Would he deny Israel the right to do the same thing in its own backyard? Apparently so.
Not only is Powell demanding that Israel withdraw its troops, he even referred to the Palestinian suicide bombers as "innocents." This is an incredible position for the U.S. government to take, to say the least. Does Colin Powell consider the Muslim suicide bombers in New York "innocents"?
Why is Bush willing to coddle P.L.O. terrorist, Yasser Arafat? Why would he order American troops to risk their lives fighting terrorism in Afghanistan while at the same time demanding Arafat's safety? Why does Bush want to deny Israel's Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, what he demands for himself: the right to aggressively defend his country?
One must remember that there is a long-term commercial partnership between Arafat's chief sponsor, Saudi Arabia, and the Bush family. This alliance is well documented; therefore, it should come as no surprise that Bush would hesitate to offend his Islamic benefactors.
However, President Bush is pursuing a dangerous course. First, he is turning his back on history (both Biblical and secular) by trying to create an independent state for the Palestinians. The Palestinians have no historical claim to the Promised Land. G-d clearly gave that land to the children of Israel. Furthermore, the only independent nation to ever exist on that land is the nation of Israel. There has never been an independent Palestinian country, and for Bush to pretend that they have some kind of "right" to the land is a denial of history and an act of defiance against the revealed will of G-d. As a professing Christian, Bush should know better.
To put it in perspective, consider this analogy. Suppose Mexican immigrants in America's great Southwest decided that they wanted an independent country for themselves. They further insisted that the United States has no right to exist and determined to back up their demands by sending wave after wave of suicide bombers into the malls and shopping centers of America's cities. (This scenario is similar to what the P.L.O. is doing in Israel.) What would America do? Would we listen to some tinhorn leader halfway around the world who would demand that we negotiate a "peace accord" with such people? Of course not. Yet, this is exactly what Bush is demanding of Israel. Bush is telling Sharon to do what he says not what he does. Bush should realize that what is good for the American goose is good for the Israeli gander.
Indeed he is. He looks more like Clinton everyday that he makes these kind of statements and then winks at us.
Truth W, plain talking truth. Please.
The nation is in a bind indeed, between sleazy business people and communists who want to destroy business altogether. Why? Because all want their entitlement and their cult not to be forgotten by government that should be separatated from cults and classes. Compassionate conservatism is a death spiral that Bush cannot even control anymore.
he has been forced to use words manipulatively and insincerely in order to assuage our contemptible, but necessary, allies. Gary Cooper has been forced to masquerade as a used car salesman saying and doing almost anything to make the sale. If the president can temporarily sacrifice his cherished reputation for straight talk, we Americans who support his struggle against terror must be willing to temporarily sacrifice our scorn for manipulative political language."
In a speech about volunteerism on Monday, that actually had more to do with the war, Bush said: The best way to fight the war on terror is to love your neighbor. No, let me re-phrase that: The best way to fight the war on terror at home is to love your neighbor, and the best way to fight the war on terror abroad is to unleash the military.
I agree with Blankleys take on what Bush is forced to do: to congeal these gobs of jelly (EU, Arab states) into a reasonably solid platform from which he can launch a series of decisive battles against terror.
His biggest problem is that hes not a very good liar.

Please look at the photo accompanying this column.
Stare at it. View it carefully. Study the image.
This is the face of Yasser Arafat's terror.
This is what it looks like.
This is how he remains in power.
This is why we continue to deal with this murdering fiend after more than 30 years. They say a picture is worth a thousand words.
This one may be worth many more.
The story behind this photo is simple. It's not unique. The victim is called a "collaborator" by Arafat's "police force." He was one of Arafat's terrorists who was suspected of working with Israel in some way.
The important thing to understand about this photo is that this is how Arafat rules his own people by sheer terror, by brute force, by barbaric tactics that would be unimaginable to most in the West.
Yet, we continue to deal with him. We continue to support him financially with U.S. taxpayer dollars. We continue to give him credence as an international peacemaker.
If you care to know more details, the victim was eviscerated after this picture was taken. I have photos of that, too. I will spare you the more gruesome images.

APPEASEMENT OF TERRORISM WORLD TOUR
Colon Powell Video News Conference in Cairo (RealPlayer)
A precise description of the EU. Too bad we have to claim that most of our ideas about government and civilization comes from these weak-kneed weenies. They were rulers of the earth at one time, now they are cringing grannies in the closet, afraid to peek out.
Our policy is weak. The picture of Powell sitting there in Morrocco taking that verbal drubbing from a 2 bit Arab dictator says it all. We have lost our moral authority in the Mideast.
Yeah, that's it. It's all about Bush making money. Please. This kind of smarmy little aside loses all credibility for this piece.
The Bush-bashers will complain if Bush ignores the conflict and Israel does what it pleases and they'll complain if he attempts to stabilize the conflict and avoid a wider war in the mid-east. Bush has to intervene but Powell is taking the long way around to visit Israel for a purpose. Israel is mopping up the terrorist camps while Powell chats with the Arab Princes and Bush issues dire warnings to Sharon. It's a plan.
The U.S. cannot just abandon the Palis totally; we have to keep some avenues open for talks if there is ever to be a political settlement. Meanwhile, Israel is doing what it has to for the near-term and the U.S, is helping, while posing as a third party with a even hand in the process. Not sexy or emotionally rewarding but necessary.
