The Muslim Youth Movement of South Africa has called on leading Ulama bodies in the country, which certify products halaal, to declare the products, identified as those produced by Israeli- supporting companies, as Haraam or unlawful for consumption.
"We see that certain scholars, such as Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi as having declared such products as Haraam", said Naeem Jeenah, President of the MYM. "And so, we are saying that in South Africa, Halaal-certifying bodies need to take a selection of products that meet the requirements identified by people like Sheikh al-Qaradawi, and declare their consumption Haraam."
Jeenah said: "there is no way a product whose consumption assists in the killing of people, of Palestinians, for that matter, can be regarded as wholesome or good."
He cautioned that the call is not to target "Jewish Shops" but those companies and related products which have been identified as injecting millions into the Israeli economy each year.
For example, Jeenah explained, companies which received the Jubilee Award from Israel for its support, "need to be boycotted".
"There are alternatives", he said. "So..dont but cucumbers imported from Israel. You can buy something else!." Jeenah said the MYM has already met the Muslim Judicial Council(MJC), one of the leading Halaal- certifying bodies. "The meeting was very positive." The MJC last week also came out in support of the call for a consumer boycott by the Palestine Solidarity Committee of particular products which have been blacklisted.
The MYM is a national body, known for its contribution to the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa.
Many Americans and Israelis want murderous muslim bastards declared dead
Haraam, Halaal, Ulama. Not in my Webster's, yet. Maybe soon, though.
I'm sure at least some of those cucumbers were grown and harvested using Palestinian labor, and if demand should go down they won't be needed any more.
Do you suppose SA muslims have thought this through completely?
Yes, lots of South Asians have emigrated to South Africa. These include both Pakistanis and Indians, also a smattering of Middle Easterners. Ghandhi lived in South Africa for a while, he may have been born there.
HaHaHa!! I don't think that 'thinking things through' is the Muslim World's long suit.
