You guys should be ashamed of yourselves going after the Catholic Church.

They're not going after the Church. They are going after an individual Cleric who has harmed the Church.

NO shame on me for protesting. Shame belongs to the cardinal who abandoned the children. We are free to protest in the USA. This is respectful non violent protest. I am a devout Catholic, AND a parent, and I do not approve of how Cardinal Law has handled this. We can have another cardinal. I do not support this one anymore, I have withdrawn my support, and I look forward to a REAL SHEPHERD who will protect innocent children. He did not protect the children. Rumple

Why should anyone be ashamed to go after the Catholic Church? That miserable institution has suppressed scores of serious cases of sexual abuse. The Church has had many sexual predators within its ranks for decades, yet made the unprincipled and cowardly decision to withold the truth.

Very good work. Cardinal Law allowed 100's of sexual attacks on young men. Even in 1997 he gave Shandley a rave review as a stellar priest. I think that Law is probably a closet gay.

SNAP appears suspect to me.

I see nothing to indicate these are "concerned Catholics" working from within the Church and I take exception to their characterization of the KC Star series that was so soundly routed on these boards.

Thanks for the link, though, I'll be researching Blaine and the network.

The man has certainly made errors of judgment, but I don't think he should cave into the Boston Globe and let the liberals feel like they have power over the Church. He should wait until an opportune time and resign then. I find the media watch outside the bishop's palace and the overall meanspiritedness displayed against a successor of the apostle, even if he is in some ways an unworthy one, disturbing.

I believe Law is an evil man and should be run out of town on a rail, but I feel this is in poor taste. Then again, I'm not Catholic and I cannot speak for them, and this is America, so go for it.

I am Catholic, and while these folks are entitled to their opinion, typically neither a Dick Morris poll or an O'Reilly rant rule the day in the Catholic Church.I know that irks some of my fellow boomers and the folks we've raised, but, tough.

I ask respectfully, what do believing Catholics do at a time like this?

Prayer and Catholic Action.

The roots of this scandal go deep and are the product of the revolution -- particularly the sexual revolution -- which erupted in earnest in the 60's.

This is an opportunity to educate folks to the errors of which sexual scandal is only one sad and distressing manifestation.

Many harp on the Pope as if Catholics, particularly the clergy in America, had evidenced anything like obedience to Catholic teaching and papal pronouncements the past 30 years or more.

While protests and calls for resignation may feel good, it's likely they will not solve the problem.

All well and good to point the finger at Bishops and Archbishops and priests who've clearly exercised poor judgment and absolute disregard for Christ and the Church as some engaged in rank immorality. But without the examination of conscience and study to appreciate the full extent of the problem (which no doubt will unveil that same spirit of rebellion and modernism extant in one's own life and permeating the Church) it's likely that the reforms will be superficial and -- as evidenced by calls for the State to step in -- only compound the crisis.

Education is key. Only when the scandal is rightly appreciated for the Symptom of the real problem will we have any hope of resolving this crisis and countering the spirit of revolution which precipitated it in the first place.

BISHOP'S PALACE?

Did Jesus ever live in a palace?

He ought to be run out of town for that alone!

Listen, bub. A successor of the apostles who would cover for pederasts ought to have the decency to leave on his own.

If he doesn't, then the Catholics who SUPPORT him with their DONATIONS have every right to let him know they're unhappy with him.

This "pray, pay, and obey" crap is OVER!

It seems like witch hunts are the order for the day. I suppose Inquisition 2 might be the appropriate description.

Witch hunts? Fred, there are smoking guns, DOCUMENTS which PROVE that Law knew girly-men like Shanley were pederasts and NAMBLA supporters, yet Law told the bishop of Sacramento that Shanley was "morally fit."

Law's a liar. Should a proven liar remain as Archbishop of one of the largest dioceses in America?

In addition, Law may be guilty of being an accessory to crime.

Law must be a sucker for punishment is all I can figure.

What "spirit of revolution" occasions turning a man ordained BEFORE Vatican II into a criminal conspiracist?

In fact, most of the bishops who covered for these pederasts, and a large number of the pederasts themselves, entered the seminary or were ordained before Vatican II.

There's also some kind of fantasy that pederasty suddenly appeared subsequent to 1965.

That is naive in the extreme.
