Last pictures of lights at ground Zero. They get turned off at 11.

Tonight is the last night that the lights emanate from ground zero in Manhattan. At 11 PM tonight they will be shut off. I decided to take some pictures of the lights on their last night so I went to the Manhattan Ferry Pier near the Brooklyn Army Terminal not too far from my house in Sunset Park. The pictures were taken between 7:51 PM and 8:22 PM this evening before the guard threw us off the pier. It turns out the pier closes at sundown. In any case, I figured I'd share my pictures with the rest of the Freepers.

The towers were gone after 9-11, now the lights are gone as well.

Good post. Appreciate it. Any word on what will be built there? The first several floors of any new building have to be dedicated to those who were in the building, and the heroes who rushed to it.

I am so disappointed. I was going to NY this summer, I wanted to see the lights. I don't know why they didn't leave them on for the summer, when they know people come visit.

These shots are a compressed version of the originals. Otherwise we would grow old waiting for them to download. I do have some servers where I might stick the originals which are much more suitable for printing. I just need to figure out where I have the room for them all. Freepmail me to remind me. I will post them somewhere within the coming week.

It's fair to classify murderers as subhuman. By their individual actions, they have so defined themselves.

How goes reunification of Vulcan and Romulus?

hhhmmm.....someone's trying to get me to take off my Bush-first-pitch wallpaper here. It'll be a tough decision.

Very sharp.

Thanks for these. My local radio news (ABC national) said they were turning the lights off at dawn. I know that didn't sound right.

Thanx for the photos, they are very beautiful. I am in NJ and have a view from my front door. Not to be a pill or anything, but I just looked outside, it's 11:30pm here and they are still on. It was to my understanding, that for tonight, they will be on until dawn.

I guess some people's complaints posponed them shutting them off at 11.

Who knows? We might get lucky and someone will cough up the 10 grand a night it costs to keep the lights on.

My suggestion: make the twin towers of light permanent - and brighter. New York City remembers!

I know some of you out there have not seen the skyline of NY with the lights on and I figured the rest of the Freepers in the rest of the country as well as NY would like to see them this one last time and get an idea what they look like from Brooklyn.

Thanks very much for the pictures. They are beautiful.

Very cool pics. Why don't they just leave the lights on as a permanent memorial? My local news said that a lot of people wanted the light display to stay.

Cool Pics. Thanks for posting them. I had forgotten that the lights were going to have a short life. Bookmarked for later review.
