I am 100% for abolishing all taxes and having one national sales tax. Just think, all the dope dealers, general criminals, terrorists, and illegal immigrants, as well as all Americans would pay the same tax - the national sales tax on every product and service purchased.

I don't remember the source of this poem, but it certainly is true. THE TAXPAYER´S LAMENT Tax his cow, Tax his goat; Tax his pants, Tax his coat; Tax his crop, Tax his work; Tax his ties, Tax his shirt; Tax his chew, Tax his smoke; Teach him taxing is no joke. Something to ponder: In 1913, when Congress first levied an income tax, Tax Freedom Day -- that date which reflected how many days into the year a taxpayer had to work to pay taxes -- was January 30th. In 2002, Tax Freedom Day is April 27.

I completely agree. Not everyone pays income tax, but everyone buys stuff at WalMart and Target. Liberals will whine that it's not fair to tax the "poor," but the working poor already are hit hard by the payroll tax. A sales tax would be fairer because it would hit everyone. Additionally, wealthier people would pay more simply because they tend to buy more. The sales tax on a new BMW would obviously be more than the sales tax on a bicycle. A few misers would pay a lot less because they don't buy much, but more power to 'em. The government is always complaining about the dismal savings rate. A retail sales tax would provide an incentive to save.
