Yes. South Africa and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) were the only First World Nations on the continent. Here's a little known fact: Under Apartheid, South Africa produced more black doctors, lawyers and engineers than they do now. The South African Rand had greater purchasing power than the US dollar. Blacks and mixed race people (coloreds) enjoyed a higher standard of living than anywhere else on the continent.
Sure, blacks couldn't vote, but I daresay this was for good reason. The ruling whites knew damn well what the blacks would vote for. They only needed to look elsewhere on the continent at the legacy of black enfranchisement: Corruption, military dictatorships, nepotism, embezzlement, rule by fiat, and the list goes on.
This is not to say that blacks as a race are incapable of sound judgment. I am merely saying that African blacks had no history or experience with democracy. It took Europeans hundreds of years of trial and error to come up with a workable system of democracy. It was thrust on African blacks who as little as two hundred years ago were still mired in the stone-age.
That's why people like myself held our noses, and lobbied the US government to support Rhodesia & the old South Africa.
Unfortunately, muddle-headedness prevailed, and the results kind of speak for themselves.
And the silence from the "watchdog press" thunders on.... sadly indexing:

Closer to home, take a look at Black-ruled cities in the US: DC, Detroit, etc.
NYC under David Dinkens was a disaster until Guiliani took over and turned it around
The fundamental problem is that so many Blacks are in the underclass, and Black politicians know they have to cater to the underclass in order to get elected. The results are predictable
