Article 5:The Palestinians are those Arab nationals who, until 1947, normally resided in Palestine regardless of whether they were evicted from it or have stayed there. Anyone born, after that date, of a Palestinian father - whether inside Palestine or outside it - is also a Palestinian.

Article 6:The Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the Zionist invasion will be considered Palestinians.

Uh, huh, lemme see... Arabs are considered legitimate natives of Palestine if their progenitors were there by '47, but Jews don't qualify unless they were there before the late 19th century? Neat trick, getting around the fact that most "Palestinians" migrated to the area because of the improvements in agriculture and infrastructure made by the zionists.

The ARAB nation is the 21-22 states of the globe. They consider themselves a federal/religious/national unity...

....Except for the little problem of hating each other and fearing each other just about as much as they all hate and fear America and Israel.

Well, you can't have everything!

I am a decendant of generations of "Palestinians".

Then your perspective is certainly of value to this forum, even -- actually especially -- if it might represent a "minority" viewpoint.

For my part, I make no secret about my feelings on the topic, but I pray that my indignant reactions to the savagery taking place in Israel don't deafen my ears to reasonable points of view!

By the way, I prefer not to use the name "Palestine" or refer to "Palestinians", because those names are derived from the name "Palestinia", given to Israel by the Roman emperor Hadrian after he crushed the Bar-Kochba rebellion in 135 A.D. and threw the Jews out of Israel. He purposefully chose to name the lands, which the Romans previously called "Judea" and "Galilee" (and the Jews called "Israel") after the ancient enemies of the Israelites: the Philistines. The name was deliberately coined to be offensive to the Israelites, to add insult to exile and erase Israel from the map, and should be considered in that light. The name is a relic of Roman occupation, not Arab residency.

When Israel was founded in 1948, in accordance with U.N. resolutions, under the sanctity of international law, and it defended itself against immediate attack by all of its neighbors, it earned the right to be called Israel once again.

Should the local Arabs legitimately earn that right someday (and sending bomb donkeys into Israel is not moving them in that direction), I suggest they choose an Arabic name, rather than a Roman one. Unless, of course, they wish to commemorate the Roman Empire in their very name!

And yes, I did notice the quotation marks you used around the word "Palestinians". Thanks for your accuracy and honesty!

Imal

P.S. I don't call Russia the "Soviet Union" anymore, either.

Bbbbut what about the "Palestinian" Mothers?

Don't they have rights too? (as if I didn't know)

The 'Arab nation' line is the quest for a pan-Arabic superstate... the explicit goal of the Ba'ath party which currently rules Syria and Iraq.

THE AMENDMENT OF THE PALESTINIAN COVENANT

LETTER FROM PALESTINIAN AUTHORITY PRESIDENT YASSER ARAFAT TO PRIME MINISTER SHIMON PERES

May 4, 1996

Mr. Shimon Peres
Prime Minister of Israel

Dear Mr. Peres,

I convey my best wishes to your excellency, and I would like to convey to you the recent historic resolution adopted by the Palestinian National Council at its 21st session held in Gaza city.

As part of our commitment to the peace process, and in adhering to the mutual recognition between the Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Government of Israel, the P.N.C. was held in Gaza city between 22-25 of April 1996, and in an extraordinary session decided that the Palestine National Charter is hereby amended by cancelling the provisions that are contrary to the letters exchanged between the P.L.O. and the government of Israel on 9/10 Sept. 1993.

Please find enclosed copies of the official Arabic and English texts of the P.N.C.'s resolutions.

We remain committed to the peace process.

Gaza: 4/5/1996

Yasser Arafat
Chairman of the Executive Committee of Palestine Liberation Organization
President of the Palestinian National Authority

OFFICIAL TRANSLATION

The Palestinian National Council, at its 21st session held in the city of Gaza,

Emanating from the declaration of independence and the political statement adopted at its 19th session held in Algiers on Nov. 15, 1988, which affirmed the resolution of conflicts by peaceful means and accepted the two states solution,

And based on the introduction of the Declaration of Principles signed in Washington D.C. on 13 September 1993, which included the agreement of both sides to put an end to decades of confrontation and conflict and to live in peaceful coexistence, mutual dignity and security, while recognizing their mutual legitimate and political right,

And reaffirming their desire to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace settlement and historic reconciliation through the agreed political process,

And based on international legitimacy represented by the United Nations Resolutions relevant to the Palestinian question, including those relating to Jerusalem, Refugees and Settlements, and the other issues of the permanent status and the implementation of Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338,

And affirming the adherence of the Palestine Liberation Organization to its commitments deriving from the D.O.P. (Oslo 1), the provisional Cairo Agreement, the letter of mutual recognition signed on 9 and 10 September 1993, the Israeli-Palestinian Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Oslo 2) signed in Washington D.C. on 28 September 1995, and reconfirm the resolution of the central Council of the P.L.O. adopted in October 1993, which approved the Oslo Agreement and all its annexes,

And based on the principles which constituted the foundation of the Madrid Peace Conference and the Washington negotiations, decides:

1. The Palestinian National Charter is hereby amended by canceling the articles that are contrary to the letters exchanged between the P.L.O. and the Government of Israel 9-10 September 1993.

2. Assigns its legal committee with the task of redrafting the Palestinian National Charter in order to present it to the first session of the Palestinian central council.

"Sharon should expect all doors of hell to break loose," vowed one masked Palestinian. "We are ready for martyrdom. But the occupation will never be safe on the land of historical Palestine, from the river to the sea," the man told the crowd.

From another thread today... and spoken publicly by an arafat al aqsa brigade leader... APPARENTLY this LEADER has not heard the great news that the CHARTER has been modified and ARAFAT is AGAINST the very group that he CREATED and still COMMANDS with his "river to the sea" dogma. THE recision of the "offending" articles, meant NOTHING...

Arafat, palestinians, liars, murderors.
