Al-Qaeda claims responsibility for Sept 11 attacks: spokesman
The spokesman for Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terror network claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the United States, in a videotape aired by a Saudi-owned television network.
"We were able to hit the head of the infidels on his own turf," Suleiman Abu Ghaith said in the tape, "whose recording apparently began in December," according to the Dubai-based Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC).
"God ordered us to terrorize the infidels, and we terrorized the infidels," he said.
"We did what God the Almighty ordered us to do. He ordered us to aid the oppressed and we aided the oppressed. God the Almighty ordered us to fight the commanders of infidels, and we fought the commanders of infidels.
"We responded to the call of the oppressed in Palestine, Chechnya and everywhere," Abu Ghaith said.
"We were able to hit the head of the infidels ... who openly avows his hostility to Islam," he added.
His remarks amounted to the first direct claim of responsibility by al-Qaeda for the suicide attacks on New York and Washington, which have been praised before by spokesmen for the organization and by bin Laden himself.
Kuwaiti-born Abu Ghaith first emerged as al-Qaeda spokesman last October 7, when he was shown next to bin Laden in a videotape aired by Qatar-based Al-Jazeera satellite channel shortly after the United States launched its war on Afghanistan in retaliation for the September 11 attacks.
Abu Ghaith appeared three times within a week in videotapes aired by Al-Jazeera, systematically calling on Muslims to hit US interests and nationals.
This prompted Kuwait to strip him of his citizenship on October 14, 2001.
Abu Ghaith was born in Kuwait in 1965 and is married with six children -- one son and five daughters.
Until June 2001, he taught Islamic studies at the al-Asoosi School in Rumaithiya, south of Kuwait City. It was then that he moved to the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs where he was employed as a mosque imam.
During Iraq's occupation of Kuwait in 1990-1991, Abu Ghaith was an active member of Kuwait's Muslim Brotherhood. Throughout the seven-month occupation, he helped in the distribution of food and money to Kuwaitis and also volunteered as a mosque preacher during Friday prayers.
He continued to work as a preacher after the emirate's liberation in February 1991, but was later suspended over his public criticism of the Kuwaiti government.
In 1992 he broke away from the Muslim Brotherhood due to political differences and formed his own splinter group.
He apparently opposed the Muslim Brotherhood's participation in parliament, based on his belief that Kuwait's constitution is un-Islamic.
In the summer of 1994, Abu Ghaith spent two months fighting with the Muslims in Bosnia after which he returned to Kuwait. He frequently traveled out of Kuwait but it had never transpired that he was part of al-Qaeda.
Some time during the summer however, Abu Ghaith was fired from his ministry job due to his taking an absence of 15 days without prior permission.

And we are prepared to do business with you, sir.
Then the infadels rose up and annihilated us. We are now wondering about God's real intention.
That should be "god" with a small "g". We know this god. The Bible refers to him as "the god of this world." He's also known by the name "Satan."
It is time to end muslim "Bosnia" as we know it!!!
I wonder if this will be picked up by lamestream and Arab news?
I don't know anything about this.
