Thor Heyerdahl certainly captured my attention as a (manly) male born in 1955.

I wonder if any freepers read stories written by Richard Halliburton.

"The Flying Carpet" was a favorite of mine.

I enjoyed the Halliburton stories, too .... and Kon Tiki was one of my favorite books as a child.

And I'm female ... :-)

Enjoying that type of story is more related to a love of reading and an environment that encouraged learning about the world than to gender.

I just bought an old copy of Halliburton's "Book of Marvels" for my grandson. I re-read it myself and loved it just as much as when I was a boy. I loved Kon-Tiki, too.

I loved reading Richard Halliburton's books when I was a little girl. I'm glad to see that I'm not his only living fan. Will be rekindling my search for his books.
