Yes, it's very surprising that it would have been possible to make donations that day, 9/11, when so many offices closed down quickly.

Good point.
I was in a meeting in Crystal City on 9/11, and EVERYTHING was closed after the plane hit the Pentagon. Even the McDonald's.
