After recent humiliations, some of their own making, Democrats in Florida now try to seethe discreetly about their political plight.

This is what their friends at the NY Times write about the Demoncrats. Things are looking good, but we must stay alert to give them the coup de grace when the time comes.

Mr. McBride is also disadvantaged by the rules for this primary, which has no runoff. Whoever wins the most votes in a field of three or four will run against Mr. Bush. Under Florida's old rules, a dark-horse candidate might have hoped to follow such Florida legends as Senator Bob Graham or the late Lawton Chiles, who launched political careers by winning their runoff elections.

Expect to hear a lot more whining about this new procedure. Yet, voters I know here in FL -- including senior citizens who are Dems -- believe the GOP FL legislature did the RIGHT thing by making only ONE primary to determine a candidate, and eliminating subsequent run-offs.

These voters don't think you need more than one primary to determine the winner -- and they appreciate the less expensive cost of the new procedure. The fact that voters support the change will probably never be mentioned in these on-going and upcoming whines.
