Although not that important to the story, the sloppiness of this reporter is pretty glaring. I'm quite confident that they don't land the planes in Abilene, with it being 150 miles from Crawford. More likely it is in Waco or Temple.

It's Waco.... They got the James Connally Air Force Base in Waco when it was closed.....

The President's plane, and his guests, would use Gray AFB -- located within the boundaries of Fort Hood, near Temple.

As you say, that is nowhere near Abilene, which is 180 miles to the northwest.

And I can't imagine that Texas State Technical College would have anything to do with it. This is the base that the Fort Hood units (1st Air Cav and 7th Armored?) deploy from.

In other words, this is a sophomoric example of "journalism". I wonder if any of this story is true?

You'd be correct. The TSTC site, the former Connelly AFB, is on the far northeast side of Waco. It's where the BATF and FBI staged out of back when they burned all those religous people to death outside Waco.
