I'm also thinking about enlisting. Could someone say in what kind of physical shape they expect you to be to get in?

The better shape you are in, the better it will go for you. For six months before bootcamp, I ran 3-5 miles almost every day and did 100 pushups and situps every morning. As a result, I never dropped out of a run and actually found that part of it easy. Many recruits in my platoon washed out for not "hacking" the PT. Either they were sent to PCP (physical conditioning platoon) or were processed out altogether. You will have enough things to worry about in boot camp besides the physical training, so get yourself in good shape!

It used to be non-ambulatory was the only requirement. I went thru boot camp with many a reject along the way for many reasons. If you want to be successful and feel good about yourself, join... It was the Ride of My Life.

Just pass the physical. After that, they'll get you in the shape they want you to be in.
Hee, hee, hee!

No matter how good your physical conditioning, they'll yell at you as if you weighed 300 lbs. If you can run at least two miles without stopping (8 min-10 min miles) you'll be fine. You'll run as a company and they set a very slow pace the first couple of weeks. But the important thing is to never fall out. Be able to do a minimum of 30 push-ups in under 2 minutes. The recruiter can tell you what the physical requirements are or you can visit the service website and it should tell you.
