Sorry I missed the program. I just went to C-Span and can't go back farther than the 19th. I'd have loved to hear his actual comments on the program.

***Posted by Demidog to chantal7; OrthodoxPresbyterian On News/Activism Apr 28 10:19 PM #40 of 40 ~~~ I love my congressman. When the "war on terror" began, a friend of mine here at FR, who actually has read the constitution said: Hey....why don't we ask Ron Paul to draft legislation asking the President to issue letters of Marque and Reprisal since that is the only Constitutional remedy in this situation. Great Idea. It was the next day that Ron Paul was making a speach regarding letters of Marque and Reprisal.***

Next "working" day, anyway. The article advocating the issuance of letters of Marque and Reprisal against Al-Queda hit the FR News Forum on the Friday following 9/11; Ron Paul was advocating same in his floor speeches to Congress the following Monday and Tuesday.

***Since I was in his district, I was volunteered ( :) ) to make contact. Soon thereafter (within a week) the legislation was drafted and put into the record upon which it was completely ignored by the so-called conservative Republicans in Congress and the Senate. Bush certainly wouldn't touch that stuff with a ten-foot pole since his oil buddies wouldn't make a bundle on a new "war on terror."***

Exactly right. We got 2 Bills into the Congressional Hopper within 96 hours... which were, of course, summarily ignored, but it was an emotional time and we wanted to at least *try* to do our part.

For the record, while Arm-chair Hawks continue to advocate extending the War on Terrorism to all corners of the Islamic World, the one man who actually ordered the murder of 3 or 4,000 Americans is still at large, despite all "Big Gubmint's" best efforts. Some of us would have liked to see Private resources deployed alongside Government action to bring this madman to his deserved end, but hey -- what do we know....

All that said, I admit that I am Monday-morning quarterbacking. There's no guarantee that a general issuance of Marque and Reprisal would have served to hunt down Osama better than Government forces have; it's just an (expressly constitutional) idea that *wasn't even tried*, that's all. :-(

"The people cannot just leave it up to the governments. People have now to take responsibility." -- Mariane Pearl, widow of murdered American journalist Daniel Pearl.

It doesn't sound like you follow nor pay attention to any of the Crooks that are put into office by the Fools that Voted them in.

If people would do their Home Work on each of the Local Yokels that are running for Office they would find most have very shady back grounds Like Slick Willie and his Commie Friends.

I live in the congressional district of Democratic Socialist of America Lynn Nancy Rivers of the people's republic of ann arbor. It would be so nice to have a real representative like Ron Paul for a change. We may get a chance this fall due to redistricting.

What's truly shocking about a piece like this is that we view it as truly shocking.........coming from a member of Congress.

You see, his views were supposed to be the norm.

How far we've fallen..........................

You both say Ron Paul should be president. His ideas and integrity sound excellent. Just one question?...is he firm on immigration and deporting illegals?

And I have a "show me the money" attitude toward non-mainstream candidates. A lot of people would donate time and money if those who are fed up had a plan to win...so often (example: Carla Howe in Massacusetts) these people run to make a point and turn the mainstream parties to their ways of thinking. It didn't work for Carla Howe, it didn't work for Alan Keyes, it didn't even work for Ralph Nadar.

Serious people with a potential to get a big following...need to get together, bury some hatchets, decide what's really important to save the principles in the Constitution and save the other stuff until common sense prevails. (Example: I'm even willing to wait on the abortion issue...we've got a conservative president now, and we have to put up with Christine Whitman in a role model position...that's not good.)

And people who want to take the country back have to stop destroying each other...example Pat Buchanan destroyed Ross Perot's political structure, which would've been an excellent structure to win the election...in fact, it's still in place. I'm not convinced Pat Buchanan wanted to win anything except publicity for his speaking and writing. And going along with the mainstream joking about Ross Perot...hey, he's the guy who actually did something about stuff, more than once in his life.

If this is a rant, sorry. But it's serious stuff. I hope you guys who want Ron Paul (or someone of his caliber and integrity) as President are sitting in a dark room somewhere plotting your strategy to win, including some strange combinations of people who have one thing in common...the need to save the nation!

It would seem that we have a leak in our Organization and you have obviously been told too much. Please turn off the computer and wait for our interrogation and indoctrination teams to arrive.
They will be there shortly.
Is it ok if we land a helicopter on your front lawn?

It didn't work for Carla Howe, it didn't work for Alan Keyes, it didn't even work for Ralph Nadar.

Carla Howell received 12% of the vote running for Senate and that was with both a Republican and a Democrat in the race. (The Democrat was Ted Kennedy).

She has almost single handedly gotten the MA repeal the income tax initiative on the ballot.

She, along with Michael Cloud have initiated the only lawsuit which intends to strike down all campaign finance laws (see http://realcampaignreform.org/).

She isn't finished. And she's running for Governor. We'll see what happens.

I heard Carla Howe speak once, to a small group which is known for asking tough but fair questions. She did very well...although there was one ultra liberal Democrat who "got her" (on purpose, I thought) on a question she probably should've been able to answer. (Do you think the NTSB should be abolished?...she didn't know what it was. Suggestion...have her bring an advisor with a laptop when she speaks, to find things fast)

I really, really liked her and her commitment to her ideals. And she won the crowd over. But now, with Mitt Romney running as the Republican Governor candidate, I think it will keep people voting for the Republican or Democrat, as the campaign will probably get hot. (If the Democrats are smart, they'll nominnate a Catholic..with the church mess, the Catholics in MA need someone to rally around.) I wish she were running for a vulnerable Congressional seat...the Republican Party isn't trying real hard there.

While Limbaugh HAS (I THINK!) plugged more folks into the process, he has an unfortunate (engineered??) tendency to lead them in the direction of the Pubbie Party.

As anyone with half a brain OUGHT to know, the Dems want state socialism NOW; the Pubbies are content to wait a few days. Does the expression "Judas Goat" ring any bells?

The only national personality about whom Limbaugh listeners can be certain they'll hear is -- well -- Rush Limbaugh.

I REALLY wish Rush would take more vacations so we could hear more from Walter Williams.

Ron Paul is dead-on in his assessment of how overgrown and beyond it's legal authority our centralized federal government has grown. Unfortunately, most people have been bought-off with their own (or someone else's) money. For example, older folks bristle at how senseless and overbearing our government has become, but mention how, in reigning in the behemoth, Social Security and Medicare would have to go, and their eyes glaze over and the backpedaling begins.

"Few men desire liberty; most men wish only for a just master." -- Sallust

"Faced with the pain of freedom, man begs for his shackles." -- Gerry Spence

Ron Paul was a Republican Congressman in the 1980s. Then ran for President on the Libertarian ticket in 1988. Then he returned to Congress as a Republican.

Paul is a true libertarian in his views, and votes that way. But he happens to serve as a Republican, as, I suppose, he can't win on the LP.
