Sometime later it became known that instead of being destroyed, the guns were back on the street, in the hands of gang bangers, because they were being sold by GASP! Chicago cops.

This is clearly a dictator city.

Illinois and Massachusetts are the only states to have an FOID or "gun card"
The FOID was put to the people of Illinois via a ballot referendum around 1970 or 1971
I remember the original debate. It was about "reasonable restrictions on people.
The original law was simple and only put "temporary restrictions" on certain types of people.

The original restrictions were as follows:

For a period of 5 years from finishing his sentence of jail or probation a felon was denied an FOID card

For a period of 5 years from being released from a mental hospital a patient was denied an FOID card.

The restrictions on felons went up to 10 years sometime in the late 80's.
The restriction on felons then went up to 40 years in the 90's and is now a lifetime ban.
The 5 year prohibition for mental patients is still in effect today
Drug addicts and people who are mentally retarded are prohibited too.
( but you have to tell the state you are a retard or addict!)

As you can see the origianl law is totally diffrent from the law we have today.

A year or two before the implementation of the FOID card, Illinois underwent a constitutional convention.
I've always suspected that the weak 2nd Amendment of the Illinois Constitution was implemented then.

The FOID card breaks both the spirit and letter of the US Constitution

But that's life in the socialist State of Illinois
