I thought they were going to rush the stage.

LOL!! Ya know, if she ever gets tired of making speeches...she could make a killing doing stand-up. She might not like it...but people just adore her.

She's terrific! With her "take no prisoners" style, I would love to hear her speak openly and honestly about Bubba and the Beast. It would be priceless.

"Among the five children, George W. inherited the lion’s share of his mother’s personality traits"

I doubt that. Surely some of the other children inherited some of her personality traits.

What a contrast between the sterling, aristocratic Bushes and the chrome-plated Kennedys.

The distinction is lost on the philistine Liberals--but then, if they were capable of sound judgment, they wouldn't be Liberals in the first place, would they?

I like Poppy but I can't help thinking maybe the wrong Bush was president the first time. "The Enforcer"- I like that.

her blunt manner, impatience and her black-and-white world view (in contrast to her diplomatic husband, who sees shades of gray). A snide back-stab: If they are reporting about Hitlery, this would be changed to "being able to draw the line".

In light of the REAL Queen Mum's recent passing, the article's title is tasteless, IMHO. However, it's a good piece.

Bump for W's Mom.

I recall during the "they all did it" phase of "it's only sex," Barbara was asked about the allegations that 41 had played around. Her one-word answer spoke volumes and put a dead stop to the story: "Bull."

I don't like the title or the references to royalty in the story. I interpret the motive of the press to equate the Bush family to royalty as being derogatory. I certainly don't think that Mrs. Bush will like the title. I would not be surprised to hear slams at the 'royal family' from dems in the 2004 election cycle.

I didn't look at it that way at all. I thought of it as a reference to the Kennedys, who have long been called the American Royal Family. The Bush Family has definitely overshadowed them today.

Maybe, but I'm not so sure. The Democrats have tried very hard to portray the Kennedys as royalty or as America's royal family. Of course, the Bushes have them out-classed in every possible way.

What a beautiful photo of Barbara Bush as a young woman! Just lovely. And yes, the Bushes out-class those Kennedys in every way. I was thinking just that the other day. The Bushes come from a long line of prominent people, one of W's great-grandfathers founded the oldest investment company on Wall Street, and the Walker Cup is named after George HW's mother's family, whose ancestors settled in this country in the 1600s.

And Barbara Pierce Bush herself is descended from the brother of one of our earlier presidents, Franklin Pierce.

W's family were prominent businessmen and public servants when the Kennedy patriarch was still tending his saloon in Boston! How we ever got stuck with the Kennedys being called our "royal family" is beyond me, but I'm sure we can blame the press once again.
