Neighbors Outraged Over Short Sentence For Convicted Rapist

STANWOOD - A local veterinarian, who drugged and raped a 10-year-old girl, will spend just 6 months in jail. Neighbors are shocked he won't be locked up longer.

One year ago, Roy Haralson of Stanwood invited a 10-year-old relative over and attacked her. Court documents say the child told police Haralson gave her a pill and told her to take it... and she didn't know why he wanted her to take it. But then she fell asleep and then felt someone feeling her on her body and that she couldn't move.

When the child awoke the next morning, she said there was a $20 bill lying next to her.

The court documents also say the child was raped. When confronted with the crime by family members, Haralson said he should have known better.

He faced 11 years in prison for the crime, but prosecutors opted for a shorter sentence combined with intense treatment.

"There was a recommendation from one of the doctors that we respect and has had a great deal of success in this area saying that Mr. Haralson was very amenable to treatment," said James Townsend, Snohomish County's deputy attorney.

That made him a good candidate for the sexual offenders alternative sentencing program. Doctors recommended Haralson get six months in jail with work release and intensive treatment.

"It is not typical, but it is not uncommon either," Townsend said. "We have a very limited number of treatment providers who's recommendation we'll listen to, and this doctor happens to be one."

If Haralson makes any mistakes, he'll go to prison for the full 11-year sentence.

His neighbors are outraged. They want to know if this will really get him help, and if this really a punishment.

"I was very disappointed," said one neighbor. "I would like to think we're somehow protected by the law, and my kids' safety matters.

"It's very upsetting and I guess what it says to me is that the rape of children is not that socially unacceptable in the eyes of the law here. And I think that's very sad.

Court documents say Haralson also raped two other relatives who were minors, but the statute of limitations ran out. Police also said they found child pornography photos and computer files at his house.

Some things are so important that they transcend this life. In other words, imagine the strength it would provide your daughter as she attempts to recover from being raped knowing that her dad executed justice on the perpetrator. On the other hand, imagine the fear she would have knowing that the perpetrator would be out in a year.

Like every other abomination that been made A-OK and has put this country at enmity with God, this is starting on the Left Coast and will make its way east in short order.

The people who will cry the loudest when we have forever lost our freedoms and way of life and are officially a banana republic will be the people who, by letting child rapists off easy and thereby paving the way for child rape to become just another "lifestyle choice" (the same people who are responsible for normalizing other moral depravity) will have caused it.
