If these lawyers do not do whatever necessary to receive for their services, then the IRS considers that a gift, these two crooks MUST pay gift tax on the total outstanding that would end up being *forgiven*.

It is incredible to me that the over-taxed, over-burdened citizenry in this country do not rise up and in one voice demand the heads of these two rip-off artists, instead of lauding and applauding them, even so far as wanting that fat bozo to have a TV show ... bad enough when they were writing off his used underwear and store-bought cookies given to church functions, this ought to be the last straw for some of these Clinton-die-hards.

nope, unfortunately, that is not the case, but it's too bad that is isn't

even though a deadbeat has received something of value, namely the services rendered, services are treated differently than loans for tax purposes

if services aren't paid for, there are no income or gift consequences to the deadbeat, and no net income to be reported by whoever got stiffed (and no bad-debt deduction unless the income was already accrued and reported for tax purposes)

now, if the lawyers had loaned scumbag money for business purposes and had to take a bad-debt deduction, income would be attributable to scumbag - deduction to the creditor, income to the debtor - net income (from the i.r.s.'s standpoint) zero

the good part of this is that the only people getting screwed by him are his lawyers

No way! This one guy with whom I used to work used to bitch (pre-9/11) about how much of *his* taxes were going to the military, but when I brought up that the Sinkmaster was trying to get us to cough up nearly $1,000,000/year for a fancy office in a city in which he has never lived and never had any connections (other than hosing more than a few of the aging socialites), *that* did not bother him! Didn't bother him when I pointed out that the witch has THE most expensive local office of any U.S. Senator, and that her royal suite is a block or two away from the NYC office of the senior Senator of this stte. (Schumer's office is at 757 Third Ave, and hers is at 780 Third Avenue.)

This dope truly believes that because they were POTUS & FLOTUS, they deserve to be treated like corrupt royals -- and at *our* expense.

Yep, this guy favored pampering these grifters over maintaining our national defense. It just didn't dawn on him that there were profound dangers in the world, even though the Cold War was over.

Right you are! But, do you wanna bet that if either one were running for office again that they would win, courtesy of the sheeple of this country?
