Hoping to prevent another school massacre, officials in Germany have agreed to tighten existing gun-control laws, Reuters reported May 6.
Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Germany's 16 regional leaders agreed to appoint a parliamentary committee that would devise tighter controls on gun ownership.
In April, 19-year-old Robert Steinhaeuser shot to death 13 teachers, two students, and a policeman at his former school in Erfurt before killing himself.
Current German law mainly addresses the use of weapons and storage of ammunition at gun clubs. The law allows residents age 18 and older to purchase guns if they show proof that they are members of a gun club.
Lawmakers in Germany are calling for an increase in the minimum age for purchasing guns to 21 and a ban on certain weapons, including pump-action shotguns.
Will it apply to Jews? /sarcasm
