oh come on. You would have me believe that the only way a single mother can make it is to strip for a living. that is the only way to feed a child? BS!

we are all hypothesizing her lack of skills anyway, there is nothing to say that this woman doesn't ENJOY her job and while a Rhodes Scholar, prefers it to legit work!

The school is well within its rights as it is a private institution. It can accept and reject as it pleases. I just don't think they handled this well at all.

do you concede that it would be entirely proper for the school to allow the kid to finish out this last month, and just not be permitted to enroll for the next school year? that is my bottom line, like i said, i will give you the month.

In many of those cases, there is merely speculation. In this case, she has admitted to being a stripper. A pregnancy is not an ongoing sin. The school would be within it's bounds to request cohabitating couples either get married or remove their kids. The school does not have to condone sin by ignoring or accepting it.

First of all, oph, you are an enabler...YES, an enabler!!....doggone it, if you hadn't included me in your post, maybe I could have resisted the urge....(chuckle, chuckle...having put my kids ON the bus, I am forced to look at a house that needs some serious attention...yet I am somehow drawn to FR...probably because I didn't get a fix yesterday!)

sorry to hear of bad experiences with Christian homeschooling....and I can certainly understand your empathy for this little girl.

OTOH, I still keep in mind that this PRIVATE school tried to help the mother. As I said before, I'm hoping to get our kids out of public school soon and into a private Christian school, but I'm not willing to strip to get the cash-ola to do so. (hmmm.....maybe I need to face my issues with this mother who apparently has the kind of body to make $$$ stripping, whereas I don't!! Could I just be jealous?? Oh, I could probably make the odd dollar from the types who like the 20-lb overweight stay-at-home moms....but not enough for tuition!!)

Not at all. However, it can be extremely difficult for any woman (or man for that matter) to leave the sex industry, having a tainted past. I imagine that for a woman who has another life she is responsible for, i.e., her daughter, the obstacles would be extremely challenging. I am reluctant to write this woman off with such an easy, canned answer as "find another job". She faces some enormous challenges in this. Maybe she has a strong support network, maybe she doesn't. One thing is certain however, this school and the church it's affiliated with certainly aren't part of it.

That's possible. It's also possible this woman is secretly a male Al Qaida operative who is 900 years old and a Jedi knight. In the absence of other information on this woman, we should probably rely on our knowledge of strippers and single mothers in general.

sorry, baby. i have no problem here with what the school did. it is a private school and her profession violated the principles upon which the school was founded.

In general I agree. However, the school should have no right to dictate behaviour

• outside of the school,
• with an adult who is not a student,
• after school hours.

  The school has every right to control behavour in their building, with their students, but that is as far as their control should extend.

it is quite likely that she can get a job that would allow her to live a respectable life, while her child attends a public school. if she is making big bucks as a stripper, it might require her to SCALE BACK, economize, sacrifice in other ways, in order to live a more modest, but moral lifestyle, where the morals she seeks to instill in her child, are lived out at home.
