I am paying $32 per month for high speed service. I had been paying $20 a month for dial up service with Prodigy plus $15 per month for a second phone line.

There's no need for a second line with DSL service, so I figure I'm saving $3 bucks a month for a lightning quick connection and no disconnects, ever.

The survey comes at a time when AOL Time Warner Inc.'s (AOL.N) management is struggling to get the online service "back on track" as it suffers from an anemic advertising climate and slower growth in its dial-up subscriber base.

Ha! Their 'track' has always been one of ineptitude and money-grabbing. They've never left it, only now people *appear* to be starting to wake up to the other choices available to them.

I look forward to the day when I hear: "Today, AOL-Time Warner filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy procedings..."

I think I will wait for it to drop another $7 per month before signing on. Actually I was glad to read that folks weren't rushing to broadband because it means they will have to drop their prices.

Do you have another suggestion for a service that I can access both at home and at work?

I suggest Earthlink. I had them for several years without any problems. They tend to leave you alone once you're hooked up, and they're national with lots of dial-up numbers. When I had dial-up, I never had busy signals (this is in Seattle) or problems staying connected. I'd be using them now for my DSL except that Verizon has locked them out of the area.

I suggest Earthlink.

Ditto on Earthlink. Started with Mindspring dial-up then upgraded to DSL. Verizon screwed Covad by not letting them share my second line. Covad had to put in a third line for DSL so I could keep my 2nd phone number. Earthlink bought out Mindspring but it is still pretty good service. Their system rarely goes down.

See #12. I called today to verify they were canceling service after June and had another typical AOL experience. The guy acted like he was bored to sleep, and couldn't find that I'd canceled. I gave him the gal's name I'd canceled with and the date. Then he could find it! :-)

Anyway, because of the free month "think it over" time, he said I had to call again to REALLY cancel. I will.

And AOL DOES have broadband service. They try to sign me up every day, but I cannot justify the expense. Tell me an equal or better service that I can access both from home and from my computer at work, and I'll switch. I'm a technological dummy, but I like to save money!

What AOL does not tell you is that their broadband still requires THEIR software to access. That is nonsense. If you cannot get into the Internet without firing up their idiotic software, then it may be "fast" like broadband - but it is not the same. "Always on" means something powerful to those of us who have it. AOL Broadband is basically fast dial-up... a rip off.

By the way most of Arazonia, New Mexico and Utah have no AOL service. AOL blatently discriminates against native Americans. They have no AOL service. AOL owns CNN and discriminates against all of the Red Zone by promoting leftist values.
