Look what your taxpayer dollars are supporting: huge salaries for the executives of a "non-profit" San Francisco AIDS group. Homosexual activist Michael Petrelis is helping to expose the "avarice" of the federally-fueled AIDS lobby.
Greed Is Alive at San Francisco AIDS Foundation
Editors note: The following letter by AIDS (and homosexual) activist Michael Petrelis was sent to Capitol Hill on May 16, 2002, regarding the salaries of some executives for organizations that receive government AIDS funding.
Dear friends:
Let the record show, in May, Tom Nolan, the executive director of the San Franciscos hot meal delivery nonprofit group Project Open Hand took a 10% cut in his $115,000 pay, and that managers under him suffered a 5% salary reduction.
Let the record show, also in May, that at a San Francisco Health Commission meeting the DPH took over the AIDS Housing waitlist this year, and this has been successful. This provides San Francisco with a fair and equitable system for managing HIV/AIDS housing slots. The list has over 2000 active clients waiting to be placed [Source: Minutes of the May 7 San Franscisco Department of Health Commission Meeting]. Many of those 2000 AIDS patients have housing and simply want a small subsidy to keep a roof over their heads.
Let the record also clearly show, in the same month, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation released its FY 2000 IRS 990 form, and as sadly expected, salaries of the top executives went up again.
Heres some important information excerpted from the SFAF IRS 990 tax report for FY 2000.
REVENUE:
Total public support: $13,828,705
Government grants: $5,641,681
Total revenue: $18,598,121
SALARIES:
Lance Henderson, Finance Director $169,520
Rene Durazzo, Programs Director $161,801
Jane Breyer, Development Director $156,607
David Taylor, Human Resources Director $156,502
John Vasconcellos, Dep. Development Director $136,283
Pat L. Christen, Executive Director $221,288
Total number of other employees paid over $50,000: 37
COMPENSATION OF THE FIVE HIGHEST PAID CONTRACTORS:
UCSF AIDS Health Project $346,433
Cabra Diseno Design Services $250,712
Pallotta Teamworks $225,000
Mal Varwick Professional Fundraisers $181,213
The Steele Foundation Security Services $140,331
Paying just the top six employees of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation requires $1,002,001. And the fact that so many AIDS patients languish on endless waiting lists for rental subsidies and other services, that HIV and STD rates are skyrocketing to sub-Saharan levels of new infections, and no evidence exists showing the alleged effective of programs run by the foundation leads me to believe these six employees are highly overpaid for their lousy services.
People must be reminded of the greed, at the expenses of ill AIDS patients, exhibited by the foundations executive director salary level over the years, as reflected by the groups tax returns.
Heres what she has earned over the years:
FY 1994 $134,137
FY 1995 $162,294
FY 1996 $176,742
FY 1997 $197,014
FY 1998 $201,320
FY 1999 $214,390
FY 2000 $221,288
Let the record show, avarice at the highest level of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation continues unabated in May 2002.

Perhaps, but the article was annoying incomplete in its presentation of the numbers, which may have pulled its punch. I did a quick tally of the FY 2000 numbers given:
Total salaries: $2,852,001+ (assumed all "$50k+ salaries" were $50k)
Highest 5 contractors: $1,143,689 (Design services? "Teamworks"?)
Those two items alone sum up to $3,995,690; over 20% of their revenue. And we don't have numbers for all the rest of the contractors and the under $50k employees.

This is a perfect example of how the democrats operate. And no one dare criticize the AIDS lobby.
This is exactly what conservatives should be doing all over the place.
You sure have that correct, especially here!I wish there was a way we could designate how our tax money should be spent.(I know---I'll keep dreaming)It isn't like they don't deserve 161K a year for caaaaaring.<======dripping sarcasm.
"37" workers make over 50K a year. They have one hell of a budget don't they?I wouldn't mind having those Government grants: $5,641,681 for my business either,(If I was a demoncRAT)But I'm doing just fine.I wonder if those grants ever get repaid? How would they do that, take money from the Public donations?I highly doubt it.
