State Rep. Mae Beavers faces a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe into whether she falsified her application to run for election in 2000 by misstating her address.

Wilson County District Attorney Tom P. Thompson Jr. said a public records search for Beavers shows she used two addresses - one within her 57th House district for voter registration and nominating petitions and one within the county but outside her district on tax and loan documents. The investigation centers on whether she improperly claimed to reside within her election district.

Oh man, I hope nothing comes of this. Rochelle is a pompous, jumbo-size weasel and needs to get the boot.

The address discrepancies were discovered by Stanford Research of Austin, Texas, a private investigation firm hired by the state Senate Democratic Caucus, said Chad Thompson, caucus director for the Tennessee Democratic Party.

Isn't this the same outfit that put out the telemarket calls to the old farts in Palm Beach County telling them that they may have accidentally voted for Buchanan?

Oh yeah, on their site they brag "Stanford Research provides opposition research and earned media communications services for Democratic, labor and independent expenditure campaigns. The firm tailors its research to each client's needs and prides itself on efficiency, discretion, and effectiveness." Their site is DemocRATS

More dick morris tactics by the cockroach. What else can you expect from someone fearing a GOOD woman and a CONSERVATIVE like Mae who is close to ousting his corrupt caboose?

I think that Mae's candidacy is now toast. I think that the Democrats and Bob Rochelle were very fearful of her candidacy and that she would likely beat Rochelle. Mae did bring this on herself by not being straight forward with this information. She could have avoided this legal problem and embarrassment by telling the truth. If Shoaf can't win this election, we will be stuck with Rochelle in the Senate again.

I have it on good local authority that Rochelle turned down a lobbyist position because he was deterrmined to get a state income tax passed. We have to work hard to defeat this loser.

I disagree. This will amount to nothing. They can't pursue this without shooting themselves in the foot. Taxboy Matt Kisber has lived in Nashville for years, but he can represent Jackson because he falsely claims to reside at his mom's house in Jackson. And he's not the only Democrat doing this. It's no secret. It's simply part of the political game in TN.

If the Democrats want to play hardball, it will come back squarely in their face.

Man I hope not, but it sounds like this may be the case. She sure didn't put up much of an argument in the article. Just accused Rochelle and the democrats of being conniving weasels, which is true, but in this case they're just playing hardball, and I can't say I blame them. If her candidacy tanks because of this, the Beavers people have no one to blame but themselves. This seems like something that could have been readily avoided.

If this does spell the end for Beavers, then I'm going to be very disappointed. I was very much looking forward to seeing Beavers dislodge Rochelle's porky posterior. It would have been such a blow to the pro-tax crowd.

In a nutshell, who is this Shoaf? What is he like and does he (or she) stand a chance against Rochelle?

What happened on the bill that would make it much harder for write-in candidates? Did that go through? It makes you wonder how much dirt they have on others.

I agree, this is a non issue and is being used as a further shot across the bow against the income tax opponents. Doesn't Naifeh have a residence in Belle Meade or Hillwood himself? Who was the Wilson County politico a couple of years ago who was building additions to his propoerties without zoning or codes approvals?

I don't know the exact details of that, but I think it's dead for now. It came up for a vote and got 16 yeas, but it needed 17 to pass. However, I think it's in limbo like the tax bill. It can be brought up again.

Forrest Shoaf is currently a republican candidate in the 7th Congressional District. Shoaf has been General Counsel to Lamar Alexander's 1996 Presidential campaign. An airborne Ranger, he is a graduate of West Point, Harvard Law School and the Air Force War College.

He was at the rally last Wednesday. Short guy, dark blue suit.

He was a regular on Teddy Bart's Round Table and before he became a canidate for congress he went on record as being so opposed to the income tax, he would sue the state of Tennessee if they passed it. He is now stating this in his ads on radio. Good man but don't count Mae out yet. Story will be gone Monday.

Hey, I appreciate the info. He's on record as opposing the income tax and that's good. Hopefully you guys are right about this thing being a non-issue for Beavers, but if not, I guess I'll be pulling for Shoaf.

Here's an article regarding Mae's lawyer's comments: (sorry if it's already been posted, I put it on the state board, also.) http://www.tennessean.com/local/archives/02/05/17923876.shtml?Element_ID=17923876

Sorry about the misinformation AGAIN on Forrest Shoaf. He is running for US House 7th District with Marsha Blackburn. From the choices available, this should remain a Republican seat. In the State Senate race for the 17th District it's just Bob Rochelle against Mae Beavers. That's why the Tennessean won't let this story die.
