May 27, 2002 -- For Chandra Levy's shattered family, their home has become a prison from which there is no escape, open to only their closest friends.
The Modesto, Calif., family has remained in seclusion since the 24- year-old intern's remains were discovered in Washington's Rock Creek Park Wednesday.

Theirs is a home that hope has abandoned. So terribly sad. My heart is broken for the Levy family. Perhaps one day soon, they can focus their grief once again into helping others who endure their nightmare.

I hope they can work with others who have suffered in a similar fashion. I have always said that death by murder is far worse than an accident or illness. I think murder daily kills the family because it is often the crime of friend or lover. We know a doctors whose daughter was murdered. The boyfriend pretended to grieve with them until he was found out.
We lost our daughters through illness. We did all we could, and then some. It was extremely difficult but we have happy memories of them. But that is nothing compared to murder.

There is no such thing as "closure" when dealing with loss of loved ones. Time heals the pain, but the loss is always there, never closed. An unexpected memory jogged to the forefront by a smell, or sound, brings a quick acute sense of loss, and accompanying pain, always. But, time does blunt and allow thoughtful reminising without pain, and almost with pleasure.
I ache for these people and understand thier grief. May thier faith help them through.

**We lost our daughters through illness.**
I cannot imagine the loss and pain...there but by the grace of God go I.

I have two girls of my own. What a loss you have suffered. You certainly have my sympathy.
