I am sure the older ones are. But like somebody replied to me in the thread that they were probably not taught. If they were not then is it any wonder if history will repeat itself?

You must be one proud momma! Of all the honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude), your daughter graduated with the the latter, the absolute HIGHEST honor. And your sons sound great too. Could you post pictures of them?

My thoughts on this Memorial Day:

Once a year we recognize our fallen heroes and all who have served this country, both past and present. This year we also have the memory of 9/11 and all the innocent people who lost their lives along with the brave men and women who died trying to save others. Since 9/11 we have seen our nation come together in a way that would make our fallen heroes proud. My hope is that we will continue to stay focused and support our brave men and women in uniform and support our President as we deliver justice to those who attacked us and those who want to destroy us.

Our brave men and women in uniform deserve our support and our thanks each and every day, not just one day a year. A simple email of thanks and appreciation to our troops once a month will be a huge contribution in keeping their spirits up. I know that most, if not all, here on "The Dose" do this already, my only hope is that millions of other will do this also. We owe it to them for what they do for us. For me, there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about our troops around the world and appreciate what they're doing for us. So from the bottom of my heart I thank the brave men and women who are defending our freedom in Afghanistan and other places around the world, and may God bless and watch over each and every one of them.

MJY

It's amazing to me this generation of French weren't taught how our histories intertwine. Gross ingratitude! Don't mind me -- I'm always grumpy about the French.

Very well put. One of my brothers and his wife are active duty Air Force and the change in their morale since Bush took office has been amazing, even before 9/11. They say they feel respected and valued now, and don't worry they will be used as pawns in somebody's personal agenda.

Today I attended the Memorial Day service at our local cemetery in central Indiana. The speaker was the last commander of Ft. Harrison in Indianapolis, before it was decommisioned. One of his best friends was the most senior officer killed at the Pentagonon 9/11.

They had a bagpiper, played taps, and had a 21-gun salute by the VFW and the Americian Legion. The wreaths were laid by 3 Special Forces members from Ft. Campbell, all of whom had served in Afghanistan, and one of whom had been wounded.

There was a larger crowd than in past years. The speaker spoke of the war against terror, and quoted our President. My sisters were there with me, and we got a little weepy, because this is the cemetery where my dad, a WWII vet and winner of the Bronze Star is buried.

I maybe would have skipped the ceremony due to wishing to avoid the sadness. I am glad I went, and one of the reasons I went was the message President Bush gave this morning. We must never forget.
