That's because weapons cannot complain, sue, or bring down on you the power of the media, the runaway courts, the grandstanding politicians for profiling, discrimination, racism, and other assorted thought crimes. I'm beginning to think that the gubmint is really doing everything it can in this area given the prevailing cultural/political climate in the country. Like it or not, the gubmint actions (or inaction) truly represent the litigating, self-censoring, politically correct (or rather 'corrected'!) society that surrounds us. No redlining in mortgage loan applications - everyone's equal, no profiling at the airports - everyone's a suspect. It's fair because it's unfair to everyone, not just some, so shut up and put up! Our national obsession with perfect fairness brought us here, folks!
